We are a mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP); building automation; and industrial piping contractor. Our team offers a variety of MEP and process piping services, including design-build engineering for new construction and renovation, installation and specialty construction, maintenance, and air balancing, start‑up, and energy efficiency services.

Job Summary

DeBra‑Kuempel is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Engineer will provide knowledge and consultation to develop HVAC system solutions for customers, including financial and performance‑based solutions.

This position will work closely with Project Managers, Piping/Plumbing Estimators, Sheet metal Estimators, Piping/Plumbing Labor Superintendents, Sheet metal Labor Superintendents, and Service Managers. Project scopes range across office/welfare, healthcare/hospital, industrial, higher education, and science and technology labs. System types include HVAC, chilled/hot water, steam, dust collection, plumbing, drainage, and utility piping and equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Evaluate information and analyze problems logically to develop solutions.
  • Attend company meetings to discuss work in progress, budget plans, business plans, and marketing plans on agreed‑upon schedules.
  • Engineer new, retrofit, repair, and replacement mechanical projects.
  • Prepare engineered drawings, equipment selections, and technical reports.
  • Maintain relationships with existing customers while developing new relationships and working alongside management and project/service managers.
  • Develop relationships with customer organizations, which may include facility managers, project managers, or purchasing agents.
  • Determine customer needs and develop an engineered solution.
  • Maintain sufficient knowledge of products and design criteria needed to analyze and market the department’s services for related projects (continuing education).
  • Take ownership of the design side of engineered work through construction and start‑up.
  • Identify problems on the job site, gather information, and recommend cost‑effective solutions.
  • Relay prospective solutions to customers and managers.
  • Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, executed plans, and programs.
  • Work collaboratively within the engineering department to create well‑thought‑out solutions.
Work Environment

The work environment includes sitting for long periods in front of a computer and traveling to field locations as needed. Field visits may require working outdoors, exposure to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical and electrical parts, high or precarious places, dust, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extended exposure to sunlight, cold and heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.

Noise levels are usually moderate to loud.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit, see, talk, and hear. Must use hands to handle tools and controls, walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May occasionally lift or move up to twenty‑five pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Requires ability to commute to field locations and be an approved driver per the company fleet policy.

Travel
  • Up to 30% same‑day local travel to meet customers, attend meetings, and entertain.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 2+ years of engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to evaluate information and analyze problems logically to develop solutions.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems and their application.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Engineer In Training (E.I.T.) certification may be considered in lieu of a P.E. license.
  • High‑level understanding of HVAC (air, hydronic, steam), plumbing, and piping systems.
  • Competency using CAD programs such as Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with industry‑standard design software such as Bluebeam, Trace 3D Plus, etc.
