Principal Scientist, Polymers

The Principal Scientist, Polymers is responsible for leading high-impact materials science and polymer engineering initiatives across complex, cross-functional product development programs, from early concept through commercialization, while driving innovation, risk mitigation, and strategic technical decision-making for implantable medical devices.

Cincinnati, Ohio (on-site).

In This Role
  • Provide scientific and technical leadership for high-risk, high-impact development programs involving bioabsorbable polymer-based implantable devices.
  • Develop and execute polymer material science and degradation strategies aligned with product performance, manufacturability, regulatory requirements, and lifecycle needs.
  • Serve as a technical lead for cross-functional teams across R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and Clinical functions.
  • Drive innovation through polymer chemistry, formulation, processing, and materials characterization.
  • Mentor engineers and act as a trusted technical advisor to senior leadership.
The Essential Requirements Of The Job
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Deep expertise in bioabsorbable polymer materials, including degradation behavior, structure‑property relationships, and application in implantable medical devices.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross‑functional engineering projects.
  • Extensive experience in medical device development, including regulatory and product lifecycle considerations.
  • Long-standing experience in polymer science, materials development, and manufacturing processes.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements
  • Ability to travel up to 20%, including domestic and international travel, typically 2–5 days per assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering or materials discipline.
  • Project management certification and/or Six Sigma Green or Black Belt.
Compensation and Benefits

Annual salary range: $170,000 – $180,000, with potential bonus/incentive pay. Benefits include paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), and other comprehensive benefits.
