Background:
Katzen International is an engineering technology company here in Cincinnati. They specialize in process design for clients the chemicals market, primarily biofuels and ethanol. The owner, Dave Lococo, indicated they are looking to build out additional capacity to bridge into other related markets within the chemicals industry or others as applicable (consumer products, alcohol, etc). They have also developed some of their own proprietary processes for application.
They currently have a staff of about 20 folks. All of them work out of their offices in Rookwood (Hyde Park/Norwood). They have used contract support in the past and would be open to this kind for arrangement for their needs with intent to hire (contract to hire). They ideally want folks based in the Cincinnati area or folks that are willing to relocate back here with ties to the region.
They have done relocation support in the past as part of the overall compensation package.
They are currently looking to hire for the following positions:
Dave fully admitted the challenges they have had hiring for this role as Cincy is not the biggest market for folks with this experience necessarily and that their salary range is mid market as a small business. However, they do offer some pretty significant bonuses for overall business earrings/success. He didn't share full numbers but said it was substantial.
The salary range they are shooting for for the Lead Mechanical, Sr. Process, and Instrumentation roles is around 110K. This is negotiable based on the individuals experience. They would like to find folks for these roles with 6+ years experience. The Lead Mechanical Group Manager needs someone with 10+ years experience and would offer a higher salary range.
The interview process is as follows (very similar to Foth):
- Prescreen with HR - cultural fit and high level overview of the role. Usually by phone or video/teams.
- A technical phone screen, most likely with their Director of Engineering (maybe others). Phone or Video/Teams
- In person interview
- He said they typically need a week to pull an offer together and another week for any related negotiations. I told him we will certainly communicate any changes that might come up with candidates as we know they might get other offers and need to expedite if possible

Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Coordinate engineering documentation with the Project Manager for deliverables related to instrumentation, control valves, control logic and graphic screens
- Execute project engineering tasks at a high level of quality and within the project guidelines and timing constraints
- Develop appropriate specification sheets and selection of instrumentation / control valves for new plants
- Maintain industry and internal standards related to the selections of process instrumentation and controls
- Potential travel of up to three months per year could be expected, particularly in plant start-up years. Must be willing to travel to foreign countries and potentially be away for periods up to four weeks.
