Position: SENIOR ENGINEER / ENGINEER

Senior Engineer/Engineer Position

To perform professional engineering work involving the design, investigation and construction of engineering projects including streets, bridges, mechanical systems, utility plants, buildings and other projects, varying with assigned area of responsibility; and to provide complex professional assistance to an assigned Engineering Supervisor or other management personnel.

The engineering group within the Wastewater Treatment division provides complex technical support to the operations and maintenance teams. All teams work towards ensuring public health is projected and regulatory compliance is achieved.

The Senior Engineer/Engineer role will be as follows:

- Provide day to day technical support for the Division. Technical support includes but is not limited to pumping, industrial piping, domestic plumbing, process equipment, liquid storage, fire protection, material handling, HVAC, site improvements, facilities maintenance, gear boxes, rotating equipment, incineration, controls, power distribution, instrumentation, and/or electrical issues.

- Plan, design, procure, construct, and integrate in-house projects.

- Review and comment on capital improvement projects.

- Analyze failures. Work with different stake holders to develop and implement technical and/or organizational improvements to eliminate failures.

- Develop design standards that can be included in capital improvement projects.

- Represent the Division in complex technical matters including regulatory issues, purchasing issues, community relations, inter Department task forces, and other related matters.

A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)

SENIOR ENGINEER:

Knowledge of:
Engineering and technology, especially as related to assigned area of responsibility--structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, geotechnical, etc; reinforced concrete design. Design techniques, tools, and principals involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. As appropriate, geology, including local geology, investigative practices, and stabilization methods. Code of Ethics for Professional Engineers. Pertinent federal, state, and local codes, laws, regulations and standards, and industry safety standards Principles of management and supervision City personnel policies and procedures and union contracts.

Principles and practices of obtaining and administering funding for assigned projects. Materials, tools, and equipment used in engineering. Administrative policies and procedures of the City and the assigned department. Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.

Skill to:

Operate appropriate computer equipment; use properly all related hardware and software. Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D tools, and analytic or scientific software. Operate motor vehicle in the course of duty.

Ability to :
Exercise professional engineering judgment in accordance with currently accepted engineering practices and appropriate laws and codes. Interpret engineering plans and perform calculations. Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems. Use logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Review and prepare reports, construction plans, cost estimates, and specifications for assigned projects.
