What you will do
Under general direction, manage the capacity and staffing of project development teams, overseeing project portfolios, scheduling, staffing, cost planning, pursuit costs, and technical reviews. Review and approve all project development plans, provide direct leadership and oversight of large project development and development plans/budgets for Sustainable Infrastructure (SI) Canada, lead professional development, adherence to the SI business operating system (BOS), and mentor development and project engineers.
Establish team objectives and manage team efforts to achieve assigned productivity and assist development managers in planning, scheduling, and controlling project development and sales support activities.
Hire, retain, performance manage, and plan career development for direct reports, preparing and delivering clear performance expectations, reviews, and development plans. Manage and execute project pursuits and development, ensuring professionals have operational control and accountability. Maintain high customer satisfaction for projects during development and transition to construction. Collaborate with Development managers to determine capacity and capability needs with project development engineering and project engineering personnel.
Howyou will do it
With the General Manager, establish the project development engineering and project engineering resource plan for staffing levels and take action to achieve it. Assist direct managers in recruiting, retaining, and developing engineering team members, ensuring adherence to company policies and strategic initiatives regarding human resource management.
Track changing market trends and adjust organization accordingly, ensuring the development and delivery teams are properly supported with engineering resources. Review manpower levels, provide forecasts and plans to support Development Teams’ project development foresight. Direct the efforts of project development teams to provide functional and technical expertise, including presentation assistance, estimating, technical and financial analysis, etc., while implementing JCI’s standardized tools and processes.
Establish, track, and report performance metrics. Serve as an active member of the Sustainable Infrastructure Area leadership team, providing regional and area performance information, supporting other corporate and regional leaders, establishing standards, resource sharing, and incorporating best practices. Remain current on engineering standards and practices, provide industry knowledge, and leverage field applications and best practices. Direct the team in developing competitively advantaged best practices, analyses, presentational materials, and proposals.
Represent Johnson Controls in professional and market-related organizations on a regional or national basis and promote adherence to JCI safety policies. When self‑performing, lead or support detailed development of projects, validate design assumptions, build cost estimates and scopes of work, assist in preparing proposals and other customer communications, and utilize specialized functional expertise as a project development team member.
What we look forBachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field; MBA or other appropriate graduate degree desirable. Ten or more years of engineering experience related to building systems or services; registered Professional Engineer, Master’s in Business Administration, or advanced engineering degree highly recommended.
Proven leadership skills and experience managing a technical team requiring multi‑project management skills; strong process orientation and development skills with the ability to motivate subordinates. Strong planning and organization skills, experience in recruiting and developing people, exposure to facility operations and cost accounting, excellent business analysis capabilities, and strong project management skills. Formal report writing experience and excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary.
Solid working knowledge of common computer applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.).
