Metrology Engineer

The Metrology Engineer should excel in an environment that embraces teamwork, change, risk-based decision-making and flexibility. This individual will work in a design team setting. They will also:

  • Understand Metrology methods used in a high volume medical device component manufacturer
  • Help develop gages for metrology functions – Physical, CMM, Vision Systems, Latest Measurement systems.
  • Run & debug CMM / Vision Systems programs and debug as needed
  • Coordinate with Gage Manufacturers and programmers for gage qualification activities
  • Ability to provide input / develop & qualify metrology methods and monitor till implementation to achieve optimal quality of measurements at lowest cost of inspection
  • Ability to interpret, challenge and direct effective GD&T discussion that enables robust Metrology, and enable critical design requirements
  • Manage Metrology documentation required for product Metrology i.e. revises drawing, BOM, accurate work instructions and workmanship standards and process procedures
  • Lead the qualification of Gage equipment—conduct MSA's
  • Investigate operational problems affecting metrology operations and reporting and recommending solution
  • Plan and author clear requirement setting expectations to selected Suppliers
  • Interface with Suppliers directly to ensure metrology requirements and capability is achieved
  • Support and develop generation of all documentation & specifications for gage design, manufacturing and qualification

Experience Required - A minimum of 8 years' experience in a highly regulated industry is required. Medical Device and/or Pharmaceutical industry is preferred. Experience in leading metrology efforts is required. Mechanical product knowledge is preferred. Experience with Blueprint reading/literacy including GD&T is preferred. Familiarity with inspection methods and techniques is an asset. Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills will be required.

Interpersonal skills that foster conflict resolution as it relates to technical situations will be required.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Work with cross-functional teams effectively; provide input to functional managers. Work with remote resources to achieve customer delivery needs. Understand program requirements and discuss, determine the execution strategy. Key initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing processes for each component and/or equipment; develop and implement project plan; build team ownership and commitment to project plan;
Manage the technical challenges of technology application; identify, communicate, and manage technical risk. Implement Solutions to metrology requests; complete activities to current policies and practices; keep documentation organized. Final quality check of the deliverables, on need basis (depends on the functional area deliverables). Take part in document creation, approval and signature meetings (if any) as an authorized Service Provider representative.

Execute development engineering activities.

Generic Managerial Skills
- The Metrology Engineer will organize documents and work with other departments to achieve the successful planning of metrology needs, including:
Making decisions on selection of suitable Metrology process based on the project needs in concurrence with the customer. Meet delivery promise in terms of budget and timelines. Track Project progress and make necessary changes to project execution as needed to ensure achievement of project goals Work within a multi-location team, consisting of customers and peers. Liaison with customer designated point of contact and functional area point of contact.

Multiple Project Planning and execution

Education - A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required. A Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Scientific discipline is required. An Advanced Degree in a related field is an asset.
