Packaging Materials Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Packaging Materials Engineer for an onsite contract opportunity in Cincinnati, OH. This role focuses on packaging material selection, qualification, supplier management, manufacturing support, and cost reduction initiatives for consumer and industrial packaging applications.

Cincinnati, OH (Onsite) Job Type: Contract (W2) Compensation is negotiable and will be based on the candidate's experience, technical expertise, industry background, and overall qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluate and specify packaging materials including corrugated cases, folding cartons, plastic and glass containers, flexible films, labels, adhesives, caps, closures, and protective packaging.
• Develop material specifications and coordinate testing including tensile, compression, burst, seal strength, MVTR, OTR, and chemical compatibility.
• Lead transportation testing utilizing ASTM and ISTA standards.
• Qualify suppliers, review COAs, support audits, and resolve material quality issues.
• Troubleshoot packaging material performance on production equipment including fillers, labelers, cartoners, case packers, and palletizers.
• Drive cost savings through material optimization, light weighting, and transportation efficiency improvements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• Experience with packaging materials development, testing, and supplier quality management.
• Knowledge of ASTM/ISTA testing standards and manufacturing packaging equipment.
• Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
