Mechanical Designer Specialist
The Mechanical Design Specialist will serve as a key technical contributor within the Mechanical Engineering Department at L3
Harris Missile Solutions, supporting the design and development of mission-critical missile components and assemblies for programs, and production support initiatives. This role requires a seasoned professional with 6-10 years of experience who will work collaboratively with mechanical engineers to translate complex design concepts into accurate, manufacturable engineering documentation that meets stringent military and industry standards. Join our team where you will make a direct impact on national defense programs while working with cutting-edge missile defense technologies in an environment that values technical excellence, innovation, and professional growth.
Essential Functions:
- Create detailed, accurate mechanical engineering drawings for missile components, assemblies, and sub-assemblies using Solid Edge Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, ensuring compliance with American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Y14.100 and ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards
- Develop piece part drawings, assembly drawings, and installation drawings with proper tolerances, dimensions, GD&T callouts, and manufacturing instructions that optimize design intent and manufacturing processes
- Manage design trees and Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the Product Data Management (PDM) system, ensuring accurate configuration control and data integrity throughout the product lifecycle
- Process and incorporate Engineering Orders (EOs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) into existing design documentation, coordinating with cross-functional teams to assess impact on manufacturing, assembly, and testing
- Conduct thorough reviews of engineering drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with military specifications and commercial standards, collaborating with mechanical engineers to resolve design issues and optimize designs for manufacturability
- Interface with manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to address drawing-related questions, discrepancies, and provide technical guidance on drafting standards and manufacturing processes
- Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives, providing technical input on drafting standards, best practices, and process optimization
- Support prototype development and testing activities with accurate documentation and technical collaboration across engineering disciplines
