Senior Electrical Designer
St. Paul, MN | $49.50 to $61.90 per hour plus annual bonus eligibility
An established engineering consulting firm is hiring a Senior Electrical Designer to join its electrical team. This onsite role centers on the design and production of electrical construction documents, Revit modeling, and coordination of industrial and utility related projects. You will work closely with engineers, project managers, architects, contractors, and clients to deliver design solutions, and you will help mentor junior staff on the team.
Full-time, onsite at the St. Paul, MN office. This role may also be based out of one of the following alternate offices:
Cincinnati, OH;
Lexington, KY; or Louisville, KY.
$49.50 to $61.90 per hour, plus eligibility for an annual bonus. Pay is determined by experience, qualifications, education, and location.
You will develop electrical construction documents using AutoCAD and Revit, including industrial lighting systems covering interior, exterior, emergency, exit, and lighting controls. You will create electrical room layouts featuring transformers, switchboards, switch gear, motor control centers, and panel boards, and size feeders, conduits, and cable tray systems. Day to day work includes performing 2D and 3D electrical modeling, coordinating designs across disciplines, running clash detection, and participating in model coordination reviews.
On the calculation side, you will perform voltage drop and short-circuit calculations and develop schematics and wiring diagrams. You will review shop drawings for dimensions, conduit entries, and equipment layout, gathering and coordinating design information from clients, architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
You will also conduct site visits to gather existing facility information, prepare construction observation reports, and mentor junior electrical designers. As a senior member of the team, you will assist with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and estimating design hours.
Required Qualifications
- 10 or more years of electrical drafting and design experience in consulting engineering and/or construction environments
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit, including electrical equipment modeling and multidisciplinary coordination
- Ability to create and manage 3D electrical models
- Understanding of architectural, civil, structural, and electrical construction documents
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including NEC, NFPA, IBC, IFC, Energy Code, and Life Safety Code
- Knowledge of electrical design fundamentals including grounding, overcurrent protection, and electrical distribution systems
- Familiarity with QA/QC and document control procedures
- Authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without current or future sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or diploma in Drafting, Design, or a related field
- Experience with SKM Power Tools, ETAP, Easy Power, or similar power system modeling software
- Prior experience mentoring or leading junior design staff
- Experience on utility or heavy industrial facility projects
