The Power & Utilities Division at U.S. Bank is seeking a Portfolio Manager to lead credit oversight and portfolio management for a complex and growing book of Independent Power Producer (IPP) relationships, with a focus on supporting continued revenue growth and disciplined portfolio expansion. This role is accountable for independent credit judgment, portfolio risk governance, and strategic partnership with Relationship Management, Product, and Impact Finance teams across a diverse set of corporate, highly structured and non‑recourse credit exposures.
The successful candidate will manage a portfolio comprised of corporate‑level revolvers, term debt, letters of credit, and non‑recourse finance facilities, supporting clients active across renewables, thermal generation, energy storage, and transmission assets.
The Portfolio Manager partners with Relationship Manager(s) to successfully manage a portfolio of Corporate Banking credit relationships. Grows revenue as directed by senior management by successfully closing new business relationships and retaining and expanding relationships with existing customers.
Responsibilities include:
underwriting all types of credit account exposure, managing an assigned credit portfolio, successfully closing new business relationships and expanding existing relationships, managing credit risk and responding to prospect or customer credit questions and making independent calls on assigned portfolio of relationships. Secondarily, provides customer service, participates in joint sales calls with Relationship Manager(s), and identifies customer needs.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of experience in corporate banking and/or project finance with a strong focus on power & energy sector
- Demonstrated experience managing complex credit portfolios with both corporate and non‑recourse finance structures
- Deep knowledge of U.S. IPP business models, sponsor‑backed development platforms, and operating project portfolios
- Strong understanding of project finance structures, corporate credit facilities, and capital markets products used by IPPs
- Fluency in power markets, including regulatory frameworks, merchant vs. contracted revenues, basis risk, and asset‑level risk drivers
- Advanced financial modeling acumen with the ability to independently review, challenge, and stress‑test models
- Proven ability to influence across functions, balance risk and growth objectives, and operate effectively at senior levels
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to senior management and credit committees
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment managing multiple priorities and high‑visibility relationships
