Special Assets Portal Manager II
General FunctionThe Special Assets Portfolio Manager II is a key member of the coverage team, directly accountable for managing a portfolio of more complex, and typically larger stressed banking relationships. Responsibilities include reviewing updated financial statements, proactive monitoring, and interacting with Credit Analysts and SAG Relationship Managers. The role focuses on underwriting and preparing approval memos for renewals, changes in terms, and forbearance agreements, as well as monitoring loan payments, past dues, collateral, pending maturities, monetary compliance/defaults, covenant(s) compliance/defaults, and financial statement reporting compliance/defaults.
Assists Workout Officers in coordinating all files (Credit, Collateral, SBA, shadow, side, etc.) for thorough review of high‑risk banking relationships, ensuring statements are current and leveraged accurately. Performs detailed analysis of balance sheet leverage, liquidity, income statement margin performance, profitability, operating cash flows, collateral liquidation coverage margin, guarantor liquidity, and personal credit rating trends. Provides documentation for loan processing, reviews status of existing loans, recommends actions for mature or past‑due loans, and assists in loan closings.
Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and following policies and procedures. Consistently identifies, assesses, manages, monitors, and reports risks while ensuring a positive customer experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Manage a portfolio of accounts in support of the Special Assets Director, Team Leader, and/or Workout Officers.
- Contact clients in some of the most difficult credit relationships.
- Prepare approval memos and recommend credit decisions; provide input on action plans and deal structure.
- Value collateral and assess collateral position for loan outstanding.
- Mentor Credit Analysts and junior Portfolio Managers.
- Complete all requirements of loan bookings, including preparation, review, documentation, and forwarding of executed documents.
- Develop a working knowledge of all assigned customers and businesses.
- Monitor progress on drafting Forbearance Agreements and loan documents.
- Ensure proper credit approval is obtained for new and renewal credit requests.
- Collect and review all required collateral information.
- Review current account status, including past‑due, matured, and maturing loan relationships.
- Support Workout Officers in monitoring customer performance and industry trends; track statements, covenants, insurance, and Dual Risk rating.
- Update rating, Regulatory Ratings, and Administrative Loan Status Report.
- Assist Workout Officers and bank legal counsel by providing required information.
- Perform due diligence and review commercial loan documentation for exceptions and deficiencies.
- Engage the Real Estate Review Group when appropriate.
- Process new loan transfers, including due diligence of approval documents.
- Assist assigned Workout Officer in completing ALSR forms within deadlines.
- Attend client, ALSR, Portfolio Review, and other meetings as needed.
- Complete non‑accrual and charge‑off memos as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 6 years of credit analysis or loan review experience in banking or relevant experience.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional presence and ability to communicate effectively with clients, consultants, bank group members, and internal partners.
- Expertise in financial and risk analysis and effective problem solving.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with the bank’s internal applications is a plus.
- Normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, or temperature extremes.
- Extended viewing of a CRT screen.
- Minimal travel required.

The base salary for this position is reflective of the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the U.S. Individual salaries will vary based on role, experience, education, and location. The role is eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan, with payment based on company, line of business, and/or individual performance.
