Managing Director, Investments & Client Engagement

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of the Minority Business Accelerator LLC, the Managing Director of Investments & Client Engagement will manage the overall investment activity of MBA Fund I and the entire client engagement process of both the Minority Business Accelerator and the MBA Fund I. The role includes sourcing potential investment and client opportunities, vetting, analyzing and preparing potential investments for the Fund’s investment committee, and managing the people, programs, processes, and analysis of the Fund’s investment portfolio.

The position also leads the sales process for individual investments in terms of strategy, pricing, structure, and negotiations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the CEO in overseeing the MBA Fund’s investment portfolio of securities including debt, equity, warrants, etc., and overseeing client engagements of the Accelerator that do not receive direct investments from the MBA Fund.
  • Maintain primary responsibility for the management and ongoing development of the entire credit and investment underwriting process for the MBA Fund, including risk ratings, scoring and evaluation methodologies, portfolio management, compliance, and overall performance.
  • Work directly with entrepreneurs that apply to either the Accelerator or the MBA Fund to examine the viability of the proposed request, perform due diligence, research and analyze company accounts, profit and loss statement and balance sheet analysis, financial modeling, forecasts and projections as part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s growth plans and strategies.
  • Perform various valuation methods (comparable companies, precedents, discounted cash flow models, etc.) in support of business acquisitions and investment opportunities.
  • Prepare, analyze, and review materials used in the financing and investment of business transactions, including investment memoranda and management presentations.
  • Brief members of the Member Advisory Committee, Investment Committee and Board of Managers on proposed acquisitions and investment and client opportunities.
  • Identify sources of debt and equity financing relationships.
  • Ensure company policies and legal guidelines are communicated from the top down and are followed at all times.
  • Demontrate ability to simplify and communicate complex financial concepts with stakeholders, authorities, and business and strategic partners, including banks, CPAs, attorneys and brokers.
  • Lead the preparation of documents, investment memorandums and related materials for all Investment Committee meetings or third‑party capital providers.
  • Serve as the brand ambassador for the company to strengthen its profile.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Business Administration, or a minimum of 15 years of equivalent and relevant experience in business and commercial lending, investments, underwriting and investment analysis.
  • Financial Industry Regulatory Authority Series 7 or 66 license preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in deal structuring, valuations, and financial and business analysis.
  • At least 10 years of experience in evaluating and structuring mergers and acquisitions.
  • Superior understanding of sourcing, structuring, modeling, valuing and closing equity and debt financings.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills for effective relationship management.
  • Highly developed sales, networking and presentation skills.
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office products, with advanced level of Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, team‑based environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid office environment with a minimum of 3–4 days in office per week. First 30 days of employment will be in office for onboarding and training.

Work Environment

The position is in a climate‑controlled downtown office site and requires a minimal amount of external activity. The job involves talking, listening, researching, and sitting for long periods working at a computer screen. This position does not require travel. The role may include some evenings and weekends, and a flexible work week is available to accommodate these instances.
