Claims Analyst

General Function

Responsible for completing and filing investor/insurer claims within required guidelines in order to recoup Fifth Third’s investment in the property, including loan principal, accrued interest, corporate or escrow advances, and incentives for timely filing. The residential mortgage portfolio includes 325,000 loans, 75% investor owned or insured, with approximately 200 claims filed monthly and $30 million recouped annually. The position also includes filing Loss Mitigation claims.

Accountable for risk by exchanging ideas, elevating concerns, and following policies and procedures. Achieve results by identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks while operating within the bank’s risk appetite.

• All claims started within five business days of receipt from loss mitigation or foreclosure.
• File all investor/insurer claims within required guidelines to reduce exposure to curtailments and fines.
• Track all claims monthly for status updates and proceeds.
• Post claim proceeds per investor/insurer requirements within 48 hours of receipt, including principal, interest, escrow, and other advances, up to $1 million per week.
• Close out accounts to ensure all balances equal zero through chargeoff and correct Mortgage Serv system settings.
• Work with attorney network to ensure evictions, redemption, title, mobile home issues, conveyances, and reconveyances are handled with due diligence.
• Coordinate with property preservation vendor, hazard claim vendor, claims outsourcing vendor, city officials, etc., to maintain properties to investor/insurer requirements.

• High school diploma.
• Good organizational skills.
• 0‑2 years mortgage default or mortgage servicing related experience.
• Proficient PC skills including advanced Excel, Word, and Access.

The base salary for this position reflects the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the U.S. Individual salaries within this range will vary based on role, relevant skill set, experience, education, and geographic location.
