** Job Description
** The Loss Mitigation Trial Underwriter supports customers experiencing financial hardship by reviewing residential loan documentation and facilitating loss mitigation solutions. This role is responsible for evaluating borrower files, verifying required documentation, completing income and asset calculations, and processing files through internal systems to support loan modification and assistance programs.
The position works with U.S. Bank–owned loans and HELOCs and plays a key role in managing daily file volume while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established guidelines.##
Key Responsibilities
* Review assigned borrower files to confirm all required documentation has been received and is complete
* Request missing or additional information directly from borrowers when needed
* Perform income and asset calculations in accordance with internal guidelines
* Enter and validate borrower data within the Loss Mitigation System (LMS) and other internal tools
* Utilize automated decisioning systems to evaluate eligibility for loss mitigation options
* Compile required documentation into complete file packets using document management software
* Route files to the appropriate next step, including quality management (QM) review or final submission
* Review customer documentation related to existing residential loans to support borrower assistance programs
* Re‐evaluate loans and, where applicable through automated systems, assist with adjustments to rates, terms, or repayment structures
* Maintain accuracy, organization, and timeliness while managing steady daily file volume
** Basic Qualifications** - High school diploma or equivalent - One to two years of collections/loss mitigation or related experience## ##
Preferred Qualifications
* Ability to work independently and manage assigned workload
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy
* Ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal partners
* Willingness to ask questions, seek clarification, and use available resources
* Basic proficiency with computer systems and document management tools
* Experience reviewing financial documentation (income, assets, loan documents, etc.)
* Experience working in loan servicing, underwriting, loss mitigation, or mortgage operations
* Familiarity with automated decisioning systems or financial workflow tools

** This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.
