Job Overview

Make banking a Fifth Third better® We connect great people to great opportunities. The Financial Crimes (FC) Officer II must have a high level of expertise within financial crimes risk management and related regulations, guidance and best practices.

General Function

The FC Officer II leads in the identification and assessment of risks (BSA/AML, Economic Sanctions and Fraud) and the execution of procedures to evaluate the Bancorp’s compliance with laws, regulations and industry standards. They actively engage to implement the Bancorp’s Financial Crimes programs, identify, develop and execute strategies for closing gaps, and work mostly self‑directed with minimal supervisory oversight.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a subject matter expert responsible for conducting detailed reviews and dispositioning high‑complexity alerts within the Bank’s high‑risk customer portfolio, providing sound risk‑based analysis, recommendations and escalations while ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal procedures.
  • Participate in the analysis, update and implementation of financial crimes policies, procedures and processes.
  • Analyze data across delivery channels, geographic areas and product types to identify financial crimes risks and develop and recommend scopes or targets for review, corrective action or gap closure.
  • Develop and execute strategies for closing gaps or enhancing coverage.
  • Develop, strengthen and/or implement department and cross‑department business unit policies, procedures and processes in compliance with existing laws and regulations.
  • Assist in the development of strategic fraud, BSA/AML and economic sanctions goals and tactical and strategic planning systems.
  • Work with senior leadership to set strategic direction for the department and execute on those goals.
  • Monitor financial crimes‑related regulatory and industry developments and provide input on emerging issues and regulation interpretation.
  • Communicate significant issues to senior management and identify opportunities, establish action plans and drive solutions to continuously improve financial crimes policies, procedures, and tools.
  • Assess the adequacy of the business units’/affiliates’ recommended corrective action and support post‑implementation validation.
  • Participate in and/or lead regular meetings with peers to build and maintain knowledge of current and emerging issues and risk.
  • Recommend solutions based upon subject matter expertise and serve on task forces or discussion groups addressing financial crimes related issues.
  • Contribute updates to the financial crimes risk assessment and facilitate, lead or assist with financial crimes training.
  • Assist in the review of new products and services for financial crimes risk.
  • Lead or contribute to special projects related to financial crimes and build industry relations through networking.
Bank Secrecy Act Requirements

Responsible for adhering to reporting and record‑keeping requirements of the Bank Secrecy Act and Anti‑Money Laundering rules, observing economic sanctions, prohibiting specified transactions, following the bank’s customer identification program, and participating in ongoing related training.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provide timely, candid and constructive performance feedback to employees, develop their potential, provide challenging opportunities, and support succession planning and talent development.

Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of payment ecosystems, including payment processors, facilitators and complex payment‑related business models.
  • Strong subject‑matter expert in financial crimes laws, regulations and guidance.
  • Awareness of division goals, regulatory and legislative developments, and industry trends.
Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required. Five or more years of experience as Officer or equivalent work experience.

Computer/Technical Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite without assistance and minimal supervision.

Working Conditions

Normal office environment with minimal exposure to dust, noise, temperature variations. Extended viewing of a CRT screen may occur.

Compensation & Benefits

Financial Crimes Officer II Total Base Pay Range: $82,100.00 - $ USD annually. Eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan. Benefits include comprehensive programs supporting physical, financial, emotional and social well‑being.
