General Function
The Trust Officer II (PBC) is a member of the Private Bank Center (PBC) and is responsible for administering a portfolio of complex personal trust accounts, including agency, IRA, and custody accounts, with expected book revenue exceeding approximately $1.5 million. The role involves executing fiduciary responsibilities for trust accounts and administering agency, IRA, and custody accounts, working with private bank clients on estate plans that may involve multiple accounts, beneficiaries, insurance, and tax‑deferral techniques.
The focus is on fulfilling the terms of any document in which Fifth Third Bank serves as trustee, executor, or agent for a fiduciary. Target book size is 150–300 accounts, depending on account type concentration.
- Coordinate fiduciary services for a portfolio of Personal Trust accounts, including trusts, agency, IRA, and custody accounts.
- Review, support, and decide on discretionary action requests for irrevocable trusts, including distributions in accordance with trust documents and Bank policy.
- Administer multigenerational trusts, distributing discretionary income and principal among multiple family members while managing financial and compliance risks.
- Execute estate plans and related documents for which Fifth Third Private Bank serves as Trustee, Executor, Personal Representative, Guardian, or Agent, exercising broad discretion on inter‑beneficiary matters.
- Retain assigned client base by working with the client service team to deliver high‑level service and client contact standards.
- Complete annual administrative account reviews and other compliance responsibilities for complex accounts, including irrevocable trusts.
- Engage in fiduciary decision‑making, executing decisions and managing financial risk in the best interest of clients.
- Collaborate with IM&T Affiliate Support Center (IASC) to open and close accounts, process transactions, and maintain accounts.
- Ensure documentation requirements meet Bank internal policies regarding client and asset acceptance and discretionary actions.
- Work closely with Trust Tax Accountants to ensure proper tax reporting.
- Oversee all accounts, fees, statements, asset transfers, and internet setup to ensure accuracy.
- Collaborate with clients’ external centers of influence (e.g., attorneys, CPAs) to obtain referrals and grow the client base.
- Acquire additional assets from existing clients and identify other bank products and services to deepen relationships, utilizing a Wealth Management Advisor when necessary.
- Interact with the sales force and Portfolio Managers to ensure a high‑quality client onboarding experience into IM&T.
- Communicate with clients and sales force throughout the onboarding process to set and exceed expectations.
- Demonstrate sound decision‑making skills, balancing business risks to Fourth Third Bank with clients’ best interests.
- Seek advice from Senior Trust Officers and Regional Fiduciary Executives on technical or relationship challenges.
- Champion the Bancorp Vision and Core Values through personal actions.
- Recommend enhancements to policies and procedures when appropriate.
- Continuously develop and maintain knowledge of current trends and changes in fiduciary matters, attending forums, conferences, and meetings as needed.
- Participate actively in community affairs and professional associations.
- Assist with supervision and training of Trust Specialists, Associates, and other support staff.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or related experience required.
- 8+ years of experience in financial services, including at least 3 years in trust (fiduciary) or IRA roles.
- Effective client relationship skills and experience.
- Knowledge and skills in trust administration, estate planning strategies, and income, gift, and estate tax matters.
- Comprehensive knowledge of fiduciary law, estate planning, or IRA regulations, and understanding of Bank policies and operations.
- Excellent time‑management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize work.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Effective problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to perform in a fast‑paced team environment with professionals from multiple disciplines to deliver high‑quality client service.
