Overview

Primary Function
The Vice President of Finance is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the organization in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the human services/not-for-profit industry.

Job Responsibilities
  • Participate in the development of strategic and operational plans and programs.
  • Organize and facilitate annual budget process for the organization providing appropriate tools and guidelines.
  • Evaluate and advise on the fiscal impact of organizational decisions and long range plans (such as introduction of new programs/strategies, potential alliances, and pension funds and investments and regulatory action).
  • Provide timely and accurate analysis of financial results, cash flow projections, benchmarks and trends to assist the senior staff in performing their responsibilities.
  • Facilitate the annual audit and tax reporting process to ensure timely compliance and appropriate oversight from a corporate governance perspective.
  • Ensure that financial information systems, procedures, and processes are in place to support all levels of management.
  • Maintain checks and balances for policies and procedures of the organization by utilizing systems and technologies that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness.
  • Provide technical support, knowledge management and mentoring to Club Directors to enhance the quality of the financial discipline throughout the organization.
  • Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash flow and leverage excess funds.
  • Monitor and maintain relationships with investment managers, advisors, and actuaries.
  • Perform financial due diligence and advice/approve from a financial perspective any contracts into which the corporation may enter.
  • Conduct on-going review of strategies to enhance the Finance department’s operations.
Management and Oversight
  • Oversee the Grants Administration function to ensure efficiency and effectiveness;
  • Manage outsourced relationships as it relates to Finance/Accounting
  • Lead the organization's financial systems, reporting tools, and process improvements to enhance efficiency, internal controls, and decision-making.
Physical Requirements /Work Environment

Minimal physical effort required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, lift and walk. However, activities will be varied due to working with youth and could require running and extended periods of standing and walking. Maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs. Average lift less than 25 lbs. Requires ability to use computer, various standard and specialized software and database systems, keyboard, calculator and typical office machines.

Requires travel to other Clubs and community agencies for meetings and training events.

Environmental Requirements

Inside average office environment. Average office noise levels. No personal protective equipment required. Ambient temperature between 68 and 76 degrees Fahrenheit.

Education Requirement

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required. CPA strongly preferred.

Skills/Knowledge Required
  • A minimum 7–10 years of progressively responsible accounting and finance leadership experience, including nonprofit financial management and supervisory experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of budgeting, accounting and general business practices, processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, direct and coordinate operations in asset and budget management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management and project prioritization skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with Club staff, Board members, Community Advisory Groups (CAG), and other related agencies.
  • Energetic, forward-thinking and creative with high ethical standards.
  • Strategic vision with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus
  • Strong organization and analytical skills.
