Financial Manager - Insurance and Claims/Risk Management
A Finance Manager for the claims and insurance department oversees reserve funds, analyzes loss data, and manages budgets for payouts and premiums. Core duties include financial reporting, risk analysis, and regulatory compliance.
Position
Description:
Provide guidance in projects related to financial reporting and system maintenance of financial information. Manage communication with Operations Financial Managers in furtherance of updating processes, policies and ledger accuracy. Implements Financial/Accounting training efforts across Turner Finance groups.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Research and implement changes to accounting standards as required by FASB and IFRS.
- Provide information on audits work flow, Balance Sheets & Income Statement to Assistant Controller for review.
- Facilitate communications with Operational finance teams on accounting procedures, internal controls (implementing, monitoring, enhancing), and database management.
- Delivers Financial/Accounting training efforts across Turner Finance groups.
- Research and maintain accuracy of financial systems.
- Manage across Financial team to promote timeliness and accuracy of financial statements.
- Research, validate and communicate information relative to operational procedures and documentation of data flow.
- Provide financial data information periodically for review by Assistant Controller.
- Overview month-end closing and financial reporting process including account analysis and reconciliation.
- Provide summaries of account reconciliations at HQ & Profit Center level to Assistant Controller.
- Summarize, and validate, requested internal control procedures and policies for review by Assistant Controller.
- Liaison responsibilities to Financial Center (policies & procedure reviews, communications, etc.).
- Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or related field required, and 8 years of related experience and advanced business degree and/or CPA required, either completed or with commitment to pursue, if Bachelor's Degree is not in finance or accounting
Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP, IFRS), accrual base accounting, organizational auditing, fixed asset accounting, and tax filing requirements
Keen analytical ability required to review, assess and interpret trends of large quantities of disparate financial data required and audit and prepare forecasts with focus on risk management
Experienced with financial oversight, monitoring, and strategic financial planning
Must keep abreast of current financial industry trends and updates
Management experience required
Operate at accelerated performance level with ability to prioritize many simultaneous complex and competing demands activities, requests, and short-cycle deadlines for self and team
Advanced MS Excel skills, proficient with financial system applications, SAP, and MS Office
Executive level presence with professional written and verbal skills
Ability to work across functional lines and all levels within organization
True collaborator, maintain balanced view of business and effectively challenges senior management, provide candid, honest assessment
Presentation skills with the ability to negotiate, influence, and engage others at executive level
