Job OverviewUCPD is a fully empowered policing agency operating 24/7. Officers are certified by the State of Ohio and hold full police authority. The division includes a K-9 Unit, a Criminal Investigations Unit, a Community Engagement Unit, a Special Events Unit, and a Training Section.
Essential Functions- Detain and arrest offenders; complete prisoner processing procedures; maintain and transport persons in custody.
- Engage in public speaking, problem‑solving initiatives, and citizen outreach to reduce crime through effective communication and execute civil processes.
- Learn and enforce university and departmental rules, regulations, procedures, and university law enforcement techniques; participate in community‑oriented police programs; conduct community relations and public events; attend community meetings; maintain complaint resolution, report‑writing, and public‑relations skills.
- Write detailed reports, take field notes, prepare narratives, summaries, and criminal case paperwork; conduct thorough investigations and interviews; establish, preserve, protect, and process crime scenes; be a resource for pedestrians and motorists; collect and process evidence, lost and found property; testify truthfully in court.
- Conduct assigned and structured patrols; drive a patrol vehicle; investigate suspicious persons and activity; conduct legally authorized searches; engage in problem‑solving initiatives; identify, respond to, and analyze community concerns; work with other agencies; conduct surveillance and security surveys.
- Perform self‑initiated patrol; responsible intelligence gathering and dissemination; search with consent, warrants, or incident; process individuals for traffic and criminal offenses.
- May be assigned additional duties after two full years, including training officer, shift leader, or officer in charge, and handle complaints about officers in the absence of a supervisor.
- Work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, and overtime; maintain physical fitness, climb stairs, pursue suspects, administer first aid, use firearms proficiently, and handle inclement weather as required.

High School Diploma or GED
Required Training/Certifications- Certified as a Peace Officer by the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy (OPOTA).
- Current valid state-issued driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Pass recruitment testing: physical fitness assessment, background investigation, written test, polygraph, psychological assessment, toxicology screening, and medical examination.
At least three (3) years of service with another OPOTA‑certified law‑enforcement agency.
Physical Agility AssessmentAn email will be sent to qualifying applicants detailing the date, time, and location of the Physical Agility Assessment. Physical agility preparatory sessions will be offered to demonstrate techniques and review the assessment process. Default location is the University of Cincinnati Department of Public Safety Police Division, 51 West Corry Boulevard, Edwards Three, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219. Applicants must attend in appropriate attire and with medical release certification.

- Starting hourly rate: $40.40; post‑probationary rate: $42.44;
