Pharmacy Technician

Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, Assistant Directors, Technician Supervisor, and Pharmacists, the role assists in the preparation and distribution of medications. As a representative of both
*** Health Network and Department of Pharmacy Services, this position promotes a positive image in all interactions with hospital employees and guests.

• Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, prepares medications according to physician orders, including filling, packaging, distributing, labeling, and scanning medications. Handles weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients using proper equipment and techniques.
• Manages automated dispensing machines, including signing in, loading, and refilling. Conducts basic inventory of CII safe.
• Prepares and labels intravenous admixtures and other sterile products using aseptic techniques. Fills syringes and reconstitutes small volume injectable pharmaceuticals. Maintains equipment according to procedures, such as cleaning the laminar air flow hood.
• Trained staff in the Outpatient RX area selects prescription items for customers, rings the register, and completes Ohio State Board requirements with each sale.
• Utilizes technology within the department, including patient information lookup, In-Basket RX messages, compounding repackaging, and label printing using Epic and wasplabeler DP tracker.
• Responsible for the transportation of medications from the pharmacy to other areas, including medication cart delivery, IV run, and unit dose run, ensuring correct delivery times and locations.
• Assists pharmacists in daily activities, including answering telephones, relaying messages, re-ordering drugs and supplies, rotating stock, checking expiration dates, and maintaining cleanliness.
• Performs receptionist duties at the RX window, distributing medications and orders correctly, completing paperwork, and assisting with phone calls and issues.
• Maintains a safe and orderly environment according to policy and procedure, following departmental and hospital safety protocols.
• Performs other duties as deemed necessary by supervisory staff.

  Skills & Experience:
  
  Responsible for handling cash related to selling prescriptions or other pharmacy items.

• Pharmacy technician experience preferred.

  High school diploma or GED.

• Passed an examination approved by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, PTCB/ CPhT.
