Overview
Pulmonary Hypertension APP (Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) – Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is seeking a Pulmonary Hypertension Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our specialized Pulmonary Hypertension program. This role supports a highly complex patient population across NICU, CICU, inpatient units and outpatient settings, collaborating closely with cardiology, neonatology, pulmonology, and critical care teams to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based care.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in acute care and a passion for managing medically complex infants and children with pulmonary hypertension and associated cardiac and pulmonary conditions.
- Perform comprehensive assessments and contribute to diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management of pulmonary hypertension.
- Provide longitudinal follow-up and care for pulmonary hypertension patients across NICU, CICU, inpatient units and outpatient clinics.
- Manage and monitor complex patient populations, including BPD patients, pulmonary vein disease patients, and single-ventricle physiology patients.
- Initiate, adjust and titrate pulmonary hypertension medications based on clinical status and diagnostic findings.
- Provide education and guidance to patients and families regarding pulmonary hypertension diagnosis, therapies, infusion pump management, and trial and investigational medications.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing outcomes for pulmonary hypertension patients.
- Support and engage in clinical research activities, including data collection, protocol adherence, and implementation of evidence-based practices.
- Assist with monitoring outcomes and contributing to program development and innovation.
Monday through Friday schedule, four (4) ten-hour shifts per week. Call responsibilities overnight and weekends required.

Job Responsibilities- Patient Care – Perform history and/or physical exams on patients presenting for care in area of expertise. Assess and diagnose illnesses, including chronic and acute conditions. Formulate, document and monitor a treatment plan. Order and monitor therapeutic interventions including, but not limited to, diets, laboratory, radiological and diagnostic tests as deemed necessary by patient history and/or physical exam. Provide clinical consultation, order interdisciplinary consults.
Professional practice including but not limited to prescription of medications in accordance with Federal and State Law & Rules and Cincinnati Children’s policy. Attains and maintains competency in subspecialty practice, skills and procedures in accordance with Joint Commission standards for FPPE and OPPE. - Outcomes Identification and Planning – Develops measurable outcomes that provide direction for continuity of care and consistency among providers. Develops, prioritizes, evaluates and modifies an individualized comprehensive plan of care. Addresses each diagnosis or issue, as appropriate. Derives outcomes and plans of care involving patient/family/caregiver where possible and realistic to their capabilities and resources. Considers risks/benefits, costs, clinical effectiveness, current scientific evidence/guidelines and expertise to formulate interventions, treatments and outcomes.
