We are searching for the best talent for an Associate Scientist to support our Surgery group. This role will be based at our campus in Cincinnati, OH and will be on-site 5 days per week.

Purpose

This role supports preclinical research by providing surgical expertise for product development and evaluation using animate, inanimate, and cadaveric models. In addition, the Surgical Associate Scientist performs research and testing supporting development of products or procedures in open/ minimally invasive surgery mainly in the cardiovascular area.

You will be responsible for
  • Participates in all daily activities of surgical research in preclinical to enhance their professional and technical skills and gain research knowledge while contributing to department goals.
  • Execute standard and advanced level preclinical labs (including GLP) both on-site and at external sites (i.e., Contract Research Organization) as designated by the Principal Scientist, Preclinical Surgeon, including assistance with and setup of surgical equipment, instruments and supplies.
  • Knowledge of surgical technology and the ability to appropriately respond to planned and unplanned events.
  • Attending and participating in didactic sessions (i.e., anatomy and fundamentals of surgery and surgical technique).
  • Serves as study surgeon and evaluate device prototypes per study protocols.
  • Plans and executes surgical experiments for approved protocols, and engages in data collection, analysis, interpretation, and development of new animal models.
  • Develops new techniques and approaches to investigation in designated areas (mainly cardiovascular surgical research).
  • Participate in preclinical lab planning meetings and provide input.
  • Exercises imagination, initiative, and inventiveness in planning and executing the details of surgical experiments; conducts independent translational research projects relevant to department mission and strategic plan, utilizing existing and new resources.
  • Provide model development and surgical support to several platforms within a franchise, as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with all training requirements;
    Participate in preclinical lab planning meetings and provide input.
  • Operates equipment properly and safely, as needed for experiments.
  • Performs other duties to support departmental operations, as instructed.
