Position: Emergency Medical Technician EMT). Air Care and Mobile Care, Full Time, Nights AFSCME

UC Health is hiring an part‑time transport EMT to join our Mobile Care team.

The Emergency Medical Technician will provide care for a diverse and multi‑faceted patient population. They will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the appropriate level of patient care according to the approved scope of practice.

  • Air Care & Mobile Care is the only service in the region accredited at four levels of medical transport by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems.

Qualifications
  • Ability to make independent, clinically and operationally competent decisions in a challenging environment.
  • Ability to adapt to stressful situations; capable of identifying strengths and weaknesses and seeking appropriate resources.
  • Able to lead a team approach to patient care.
  • Effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Safe vehicle operations.
  • All skills outlined in the Ohio EMT Scope of Practice.
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an Emergency Medical Technician program required.
  • One year of EMT experience minimum, three years of experience preferred.
  • Military medical/paramedicine experience considered.
  • Intra‑facility transport experience preferred.
License & Certification
  • Current Ohio EMT‑B certification required;
    National Registry preferred.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) or its equivalency must be obtained during the probation period.
  • BLS (American Heart Association) at the time of hire.
  • FEMA 100, 200 courses within the initial probationary period.
  • Active, unrestricted Driver’s License with no more than 4 accrued points.
Responsibilities
  • Identify and respond appropriately to different patient needs to provide safe and appropriate care.
  • Possess knowledge and skill to ensure assessments are pertinent and accurate. Implement a holistic plan of care that addresses the physical, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs of the patient and their family before and throughout transport in collaboration with other healthcare providers. Evaluate the care that is provided and respond appropriately.
  • Possess and demonstrate basic knowledge and clinical skills to provide scope‑appropriate assessment(s), intervention, and evaluation necessary to ensure safe and efficient transport of patients with varying acuity levels.
  • Perform basic level lifesaving skills as determined by patient condition including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management (including emergency airway management), cardiac defibrillation with AED, excessive bleeding control, trauma management including spine stabilization, splinting of limbs, cervical spine immobilization, rapid extrication procedures, 12‑lead EKG application.
  • Perform basic level point‑of‑care lab testing, obtain and interpret vital signs, and manage medication within the scope of practice.
  • Serve as a patient advocate and respect the patient’s right to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Remain current and active in the EMT field and the medical transport industry. Recognize the need for professional growth, seek ongoing professional development, and identify and assume responsibility for learning needs. Remain current in all required job‑specific licensures, certifications, and competencies.
  • Conduct all daily operations in a safe manner. Report any safety concerns promptly and use the appropriate process for doing so.
  • Responsible for the safety and security of UC Health vehicles at any location.
  • Maintain accurate records in a thorough and timely manner.
