Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – Forest Hills Family Medicine

Job Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant works closely with the primary care physician to deliver excellent patient care. Responsibilities include reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for examinations.

Essential Functions
  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting patients and community members politely.
  • Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date.
  • Measure vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
  • Perform departmental clerical duties such as checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems, resolving them promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
  • High School Degree or GED.
Licensure/Certification
  • Active Medical Assisting certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, NRCMA, NCMA, NCCT). If certification cannot be obtained, an Assessment‑Based Recognition in Order Entry (A ‑OE) is acceptable (not accepted in South Carolina).
  • BLS Basic Life Support required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH.
Experience
  • One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required).
  • Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred, not required).
Skills & Abilities
  • Problem‑solving skills, basic computer skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional engagement with staff and patients.
