This position assists the physician in examination and treatment of patients, performing delegated duties under the direction of the physician. The role includes interviewing patients, taking vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), recording information on patient charts, and preparing examination rooms. The position is cross‑trained to perform duties to enhance efficiency and continuity of patient care and works cooperatively within a team concept, demonstrating flexibility, motivation, and commitment to quality patient care.
Tasks include patient‑related duties, medical record maintenance/documentation, and safety/environmental duties.
- High School Diploma
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS)
- EKG skills
- Injections
- Venipuncture
- Performance of common lab tests according to established CLIA guidelines and Tri Health policy
- Up to 1 year experience in a physician office or related setting
- Provides support to physicians/clinical staff.
- Skillfully performs and obtains tests and specimens, ensuring proper department procedures are followed.
- Performs technical skills according to hospital and department policies/procedures, appropriate competencies, and accepted standards of practice.
- Maintains a high level of efficiency, organization, and time‑management to promote efficiency in the Medical Center; demonstrates the ability to function successfully with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates strong written, verbal, and phone skills; treats patients, professionals, and team members with courtesy and respect; notifies appropriate team members of abnormal test results or emergent situations.
- Accurately documents patient care in chart, maintains confidentiality of patient records, and files appropriate documentation in the patient chart.
- Maintains general appearance and cleanliness of exam rooms, supply areas, and nurse stations; disposes of contaminated equipment and disposable supplies in accordance with infection‑control guidelines.
