Job Description
Transports patients to and from scheduled treatment appointments by the use of stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, ambulation.
Responsibilities- Transport patients in a timely manner according to department guidelines and national benchmarks.
- Assist patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds with technical staff and nursing assistance as needed.
- Transport assignments are dispatched electronically and received via phones and pagers.
- Maintains safety standards and uses proper body mechanics while assisting patients in transfer to and from beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, and ambulating.
- Follow patient identification policy during each transport.
- Ensure safety precautions, such as side rails, are always in place during transportation.
- Assist with patient care activities such as positioning, lifting, turning, restraining combative patients, and assisting patients out of bed during the transport process.
- Properly handle oxygen tanks, infusion pumps, IVs, and other medical equipment.
- Utilize universal precautions at all times when transporting or handling patients.
- Hold all patient information in confidence.
- Use and maintain equipment according to vendor protocol and departmental standards.
- Perform related duties based on departmental needs.
- Serves as a positive role model and maintains a positive attitude.
- Responds to scheduling responsibilities with timeliness.
- Utilizes the time and attendance system appropriately.
- Participates in development, implementation, and evaluation of Plan initiatives in collaboration with the Clinical Manager to improve outcomes.
- Understands and advocates for the principles of High Reliability in both patient care and operational efficiencies.
- Utilizes data to drive improvement.
- Maintains exemplary customer service standards for patient experience.
- Maintains HIPAA compliance with all patient information.
- Attends in-services and unit meetings.
- Maintains the integrity of unit equipment; cleans all equipment after each use.
- Completes all unit assignments as assigned.
- Assists visitors to designated areas as needed.
- Performs other duties as required or directed.
- Performs duties in other units or departments depending on hospital needs.
- Associate transports newborn, infant, adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients via wheelchair, beds, or stretcher to departments/units.
- Evidence exists that the employee has obtained age‑specific education and training.
- Assigned specific areas to monitor by lead transporter.
- Expected to clear unwanted equipment such as wheelchairs, oxygen tanks, stretchers, and beds.
- Follows time and attendance policy; reports to work on time, logs into EPIC, maintains a good attendance record, has a badge to clock in and out, requests time off with advance notice.
- Attends required in-services, demonstrates proficiency in CPR, completes yearly education/competency review per department guidelines.
