H&V Sonographer; Echo & Vascular

Overview

The Heart and Vascular sonographers perform non-invasive ultrasound in the modalities of vascular and echocardiography. They develop client relationships through excellent patient care, act as an educational resource to clients, and provide quality value in all services. A Sonographer will participate in research and procedures, work in a supportive environment, and receive extensive training on protocols, standards, and the latest equipment and technology.

• Perform non-invasive vascular and or echo testing and all duties of a Sonographer.
• Follow established testing protocols and produce the highest possible quality study images and data by demonstrating competence on and proper use of all imaging and accessory equipment.
• Obtain an appropriate history prior to each test with each patient.
• Ensure that there is supporting information and documentation for the exam being performed.
• Use knowledge of the ultrasound technology to determine if an order revision is appropriate and notify the appropriate individual.
• Adequately explain testing procedures to patients, family members as necessary, and hospital staff connected to the care of the patient.
• Develop and maintain good relationships with clients and co-workers.
• Provide efficient service.
• Work to ensure a collaborative effort with peers to achieve maximum productivity.
• Effectively schedule add-on and emergency exams to maintain workflow.
• Communicate with the patient care areas to properly prep patients and send them in a timely manner.
• Keep the assigned areas clean and ensure adequate stock of supplies.
• Communicate equipment maintenance needs to the Lead and operate equipment safely and properly.
• Follow quality control standards and participate in departmental process improvement activities.
• Participate in peer review as requested and other departmental process improvement expectations.
• Keep up to date on new or revised testing protocols and on professional continuing education as required for licensure or certification.
• Comply with annual hospital and departmental safety, education and in-service requirements on a timely basis.
• Attend department meetings and share responsibility for agenda.

Education

• Graduate from an accredited Ultrasound training program or completed on‑the‑job experience/training and has an ARDMS Registry in related ultrasound specialty (echo or vascular) or is registry eligible.

Years of Experience

• Must have at least one year previous experience performing the modality; or be a graduate of or within six months of hire date graduation from a diagnostic ultrasound program, preferably CAAHEP approved.

Required Skills & Knowledge

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with hospital management, physicians and technologists.
• Current knowledge of technology and clinical advances related to cardiac and/or vascular sonography.
• Working knowledge of accreditation, credentialing, and quality assurance procedures.
• Basic understanding of imager configuration, DICOM standards, networking and medical records.

License & Certification

• ARDMS or CCI registered, or registry eligible.
• Must pass the registry within the first year of employment if not registered at time of hire.
• Maintain continuing education requirements as set forth by ARDMS, CCI, ICAVL, and ICAE.
