Role Overview
The Medical Assistant with the required training, education and demonstration of clinical competency performs delegated clinical and administrative duties under the supervision of a nurse or licensed physician. This role supports the Infectious Disease department and provides coverage for International Adoption and Travel services as needed to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Patient Care: Provide competent technical and clinical services, assist care providers with procedures and physical exams, prepare patients for examination and treatment, and deliver care consistent with family‑centered and medical home models. Offer culturally competent, responsive care and treat families as decision‑making partners, providing information and support collaboratively.
- Customer Service: Act as a customer advocate, responding quickly to parent requests and concerns, providing education and information to patients and families in a courteous and attentive manner.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with peers and colleagues, acknowledging others’ skills and knowledge, sharing information, and fostering a positive professional work environment.
- Data Management: Manage records per department policy, collect data for forms, obtain consent and release of information forms when indicated, maintain patient files and records, and adhere to documentation practices with accurate data entry.
- Laboratory Work and Testing: Manage specimens according to protocols, maintain knowledge of routine testing processes, retrieve and communicate test results, and convey normal lab results as appropriately delegated.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduated from a Medical Assisting program AND either no directly related experience, completion of a formal medical services training program of the U.S. armed forces, or one year of work experience in a related discipline.
- Professionalism and effective communication.
- Attention to detail.
- Previous pediatric healthcare experience.
- Experience with administering injections.
- Strong office skills supporting care coordination.
- Experience with healthcare/office software (e.g., EPIC and data spreadsheets).
