Job Description

The Pharmacy Technician II provides support to pharmacists and managers in all aspects of providing pharmacy services. The Technician II has a history of qualitative consistency and productivity and works with minimal supervision and guidance. The Technician II has demonstrated a high level of initiative and motivation and adapts well to new situations. The Technician II has demonstrated above average qualitative and quantitative skills, above average knowledge of their work, and above average customer service with all patients.

The Technician II helps coordinate third‑party claims, places orders for medications and supplies, troubleshoots problems, and accurately and efficiently fills prescriptions. As a representative of both The Christ Hospital Health Network and the Department of Pharmacy Services, the Technician II promotes a positive image in all dealings with hospital employees and guests.

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, prepares medications according to prescription or physician order.

• Customer Service
  :
  Provide excellent customer service using SMILES wherever the patient encounter takes place (i.e., in the patient’s room, over the phone, at the counter, in the halls, etc.).
• Fill prescriptions that are ready to fill, including accurate inventory of C‑2 medications, efficient labeling, restocking supplies, and maintaining the Scriptpro robot.
• Ring the register and complete Ohio State Board requirements with each sale. Troubleshoot register discrepancies and transfer receipts to accounting daily. File waiting prescriptions in the will‑call section and perform returns so no prescription remains over two weeks.
• Accurately run new and refill prescriptions through the computer, entering and billing the correct insurance, and ensuring claims adjudicate to maximum profitability.
• File prescriptions and other pharmacy paperwork in an organized manner for easy audit retrieval.

Uses technology in the department:

• Use Epic Willow Ambulatory to enter and fill prescriptions and bill to patient insurance.
• Use Epic Hyperspace to view patient demographics and discharge readiness.
• Use Emporos (register system) to correctly ring patients at the front counter and in patient rooms.

Meds to Beds:
Run and bring prescriptions back to the department, bill insurances, ensure timely fulfillment, and return medications to patients prior to discharge using mobile payment options. Resolve insurance issues and consult pharmacists as needed.

Assist the pharmacist with daily activities, answer the telephone promptly and courteously, relay messages, and support the orientation, teaching, and guidance of other pharmacy personnel. Demonstrate leadership, help with projects, reorder drugs and supplies, rotate stock, check expiration dates, and maintain a clean and orderly environment. Follow safety policies and maintain equipment. Prepare continuous quality improvement records. Perform other duties as directed by pharmacy leadership.

High school diploma or GED.

Minimum of 2 years of retail experience.

Must meet all minimum qualifications for a Technician I and have documentation of performance appraisals meeting the criteria above.

The person must pass an examination approved by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, PTCB/CPhT, and register as Technician in Training with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy if not already registered. Upon completion of the training period, the person must complete registration as a Certified Technician and maintain active certification.
