Job DescriptionThe Certified Medical Technologist II performs routine and complex laboratory analyses, identifies and corrects problems, develops alternatives when necessary, stays current in laboratory theory and technique, and exercises independent judgment and interpretation. The role includes performing tests, managing specimen processing, maintaining equipment, and ensuring quality control.
Responsibilities- Perform routine and complex laboratory analyses
- Identify and correct problems, develop alternatives when necessary
- Stay current in laboratory theory and technique
- Assume responsibility for problem solving and exercise independent judgment and interpretation
- Perform and record quality control procedures; evaluate results and implement corrective action
- Conduct ongoing data analysis to detect trends and undertake corrective actions
- Maintain laboratory equipment, perform preventive maintenance, reagent preparation, calibrations, safety checks
- Operate, maintain, and repair clinical laboratory equipment within scope of training
- Assist in instrument, equipment, and reagent problem resolution, keeping appropriate persons informed
- Perform test accessioning, triage, and specimen processing; evaluate samples for acceptability
- Obtain blood specimens by venipuncture or skin puncture within scope of training and competency
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures
- Provide instruction to students and new associates
- Perform special analyses requiring advanced evaluation and judgment skills
- Perform waived, moderately complex, and highly complex testing as defined by CLIA
- Participate in continuing education and maintain competence through mandatory trainings
- Associate degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology (Minimum Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (Preferred)
- MT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), or MLT(ASCP) certification or equivalent (Required)
- Laboratory experience (Preferred)
- Knowledge of specimen requirements; familiarity with laboratory terminology, assay schedules, and turnaround times; ability to read and comprehend written information; ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment (Required)
- Keyboarding skills (Preferred)
