Recreation Specialist; Tr-Inclusion

Overview

The Recreation Specialist (RS) in an Inclusive Program facilitates the participation of individuals with a disability in community recreation programs. The RS works in cooperation with community center staff to foster full participation of individuals with disabilities in the recreational setting.

• Facilitate participation of individuals with disabilities in community recreation programs.
• Collaborate with community center staff to support inclusive programming.
• Promote full participation and engagement of individuals with disabilities in recreational activities.

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• One year of experience working directly with individuals with disabilities.
• Ability to lift and/or transfer an individual with a disability independently or with assistance.
• Ability to swim and be in the water to provide inclusion support to children with disabilities.
• Must be certified (unexpired) or able to be certified within three (3) months of hire in: CPR/First Aid;
  Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. Certification must be maintained as part of employment.
• Valid Driver's License for positions that require driving (where applicable).

• Adjust actions in relation to others and actively look for ways to help participants.
• Convey information effectively to participants and guide participation.
• Provide supervision of an individual’s safety in a group setting.
• Assist individuals with activities of daily living as needed (e.g., toileting, dressing, feeding).
• Communicate clearly and build working relationships with participants and staff.

• Environmental:
  Office and outdoor settings; exposure to computer screens, weather conditions, noise levels, and varying surfaces.
• Physical:
  Lifting/transferring individuals, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and general manual dexterity.
