Overview
The Recreation Specialist (RS) in an Inclusive Program facilitates the participation of individuals with a disability in community recreation programs. The RS works in cooperation with community center staff to foster full participation of individuals with disabilities in the recreational setting.
Responsibilities- Facilitate participation of individuals with disabilities in community recreation programs.
- Collaborate with community center staff to support inclusive programming.
- Promote full participation and engagement of individuals with disabilities in recreational activities.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- One year of experience working directly with individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to lift and/or transfer an individual with a disability independently or with assistance.
- Ability to swim and be in the water to provide inclusion support to children with disabilities.
- Must be certified (unexpired) or able to be certified within three (3) months of hire in: CPR/First Aid;
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. Certification must be maintained as part of employment. - Valid Driver's License for positions that require driving (where applicable).
- Adjust actions in relation to others and actively look for ways to help participants.
- Convey information effectively to participants and guide participation.
- Provide supervision of an individual’s safety in a group setting.
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living as needed (e.g., toileting, dressing, feeding).
- Communicate clearly and build working relationships with participants and staff.
- Environmental:
Office and outdoor settings; exposure to computer screens, weather conditions, noise levels, and varying surfaces. - Physical:
Lifting/transferring individuals, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and general manual dexterity.
