The primary purpose of this position is to plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct person-centered dementia programming and engagement opportunities within the Assisted Living Memory Support household at Marjorie P. Lee. This position is responsible for creating a vibrant, engaging, and purposeful environment daily that promotes resident well-being, preserves dignity, supports remaining abilities, and enhances quality of life for individuals living with dementia.
The position serves as a champion for dementia care best practices, leading engagement initiatives, supporting team member education, and helping to spearhead dementia-related projects and training throughout the community. The role ensures that the six dimensions of wellness (spiritual, social, intellectual, emotional, physical, and vocational) are incorporated into daily life and individualized for each resident.
- Possesses a high school diploma.
- Activities certification preferred.
- A minimum of two years prior experience working in an activities/life enrichment role required.
- Prior experience working with individuals with dementia required.
- Has a passion for working with older adults and has some understanding of their social, psychological, and recreational needs.
- Is willing to take the State Tested Nurse Aide training class.
- Possesses a current and valid driver’s license.
- Has aptitude for and some training in arts and crafts.
- Is able to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language.
- Possesses sight/hearing senses, or the use of prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
- Possesses the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Able and willing to work independently with flexibility and integrity, as well as effectively and harmoniously with team members, residents, family members, volunteers, government agencies/personnel, and the general public in a fast-paced work environment.
- Have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to work with residents based on whatever maturity level in which they are currently functioning.
- Has the ability to work and interact with resident care professionals as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Is able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the Community.
- Moves equipment, supplies and occasionally furniture, weighing up to 50 lbs on a regular basis and up to 100 lbs on an occasional basis; includes pushing residents in wheelchairs as needed.
- Must be fully up-to-date with required vaccinations.
- Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates innovative, person-centered dementia programming designed for both individuals and groups to promote engagement, purpose, connection, and quality of life for residents living with cognitive impairment.
- Assumes primary responsibility for creating and maintaining a consistently active, engaging, and lively household environment by developing and facilitating person-centered individualized and group engagement opportunities that reflect residents' life stories, interests, preferences, strengths, and abilities, fostering meaningful experiences and purposeful participation throughout the day.
- Completes ongoing assessments of resident engagement, participation, and well-being, utilizing findings to develop and modify individualized plans of care that maximize successful outcomes and meaningful experiences.
- Utilizes dementia care best practices to design programming that supports cognitive stimulation, sensory engagement, emotional well‑being, physical activity, social connection, and opportunities for success.
- Collaborates with nursing, therapy, dining, housekeeping, and other interdisciplinary team members to integrate engagement and dementia‑supportive practices into all aspects of household life.
