The Medical Assistant is a key member of the clinical office staff, performing administrative and clinical duties. Responsibilities include obtaining intake information, providing limited patient education, scheduling tests and procedures, and supporting providers with notes, orders, and prescriptions in the Electronic Medical Record.

Qualifications

Minimum

Required:

High School Diploma or GED. Preferred: 7–11 months equivalent experience.

Responsibilities
  • Engage in population‑appropriate communication and involve family or guardians in care.
  • Identify physical limitations and behavioral health concerns, responding appropriately.
  • Perform treatments, administer medication, and operate equipment safely.
  • Collect vital signs, EKGs, laboratory specimens, and other diagnostic information.
  • Assist providers with documentation, orders, and prescriptions in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Maintain clinic area cleanliness, stock examination rooms, and secure diagnostic equipment.
  • Handle routine patient telephone calls (e.g., prescription refills, pre‑certifications).
  • Coordinate ancillary services such as diagnostic testing, imaging, hospital procedures, admissions, and additional patient visits.
  • Maintain a positive, professional demeanor and uphold confidentiality and legal regulations.
  • Adhere to quality measures, patient experience standards, and safety protocols.
Administrative Duties
  • Use computer applications.
  • Answer telephones.
  • Greet patients and update & file patient records.
  • Code and complete insurance forms.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Arrange hospital admissions and laboratory services.
  • Handle correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping.
  • Assist with age‑appropriate care implementation for specific patient populations.
