Job Description
To operate MRI scanners, obtaining diagnostic images of specified body parts as requested. The technologist must be able to produce quality images to present to the radiologist for interpretation and must be able to function independently with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities- Communication / Customer Service: Greets patient, verifies name and birthdate, takes pertinent patient history, reviews order, explains procedure, solicits questions, anticipates patient needs, keeps patient and family informed, and communicates professionally with all customers, co-workers, physicians, and staff.
- Clinical: Prepares patient for MRI scans (explain procedure, screen for contraindications, take history, start IV for contrast if necessary), positions patient, scans, archives procedures per protocol, achieves diagnostic images within quality control parameters, maintains knowledge of coils and gating devices, operates MRI computers (startup/shutdown), handles equipment and patient safety emergencies, performs venipuncture for contrast, administers contrast media per protocol, labels syringes, documents medications, reconciles patient medication lists, completes work timely, assists co-workers in other modalities, verifies MD orders.
- Patient Safety / MRI Safety: Screens patients and staff before entry, instructs on MRI risks, wears and stores dosimeter, uses appropriate devices for patient transfer, observes patients to minimize falls or injury, adheres to National Patient Safety Goals, executes emergency policies (medical, fire, tornado).
- Information Systems: Verifies that all images are matched and linked in PACS, verifies completion of all documents, questionnaires, and histories, maintains knowledge of HIS, RIS, and PACS, scans documents, enters data correctly, performs image burning to CD.
- General Department Accountability: Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skills, attends at least 75% of department and technical meetings, participates in in‑services, reviews memos/emails/bulletins, accommodates scheduling needs, assists in all modalities as needed, cooperates with reception staff, keeps rooms stocked and equipment cleaned.
- Additional Duties: Reports equipment problems to manager and keeps co‑workers informed, maintains safety equipment, discusses scheduling variations with manager, keeps active credentials (ODH and ARRT), assists in departmental workflow improvements.
- Record Access: Accesses patient records only when necessary to carry out duties, ensuring confidentiality and protection of records, documenting access in appropriate logs or systems.
- Compliance: Adheres to ODH, MQSA, and ACR regulations; responds to daily calls requesting record access; documents access per policy.
- Education: Graduation from an ARRT accredited radiologic technology school.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of related experience preferred.
- Required Skills and Knowledge: Medical terminology, isolation and sterile techniques, patient positioning, equipment operation (x‑ray machines, printers), and MRI procedure knowledge.
- Licenses &
Certifications:
Board certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT(MR)) or a graduate of an ARRT accredited program who obtains AART(MR) within 2 years of graduation;
Ohio Radiologic License preferred; CPR certification preferred.
