Location: Cincinnati, OH
Pay Rate: $25.00/hour
Employment Type: Contingent with potential pathway for hire
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 12:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Why This Role MattersAs a Histotechnician, you will play a critical role in preparing tissue specimens for microscopic evaluation. Your expertise in tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and quality control helps ensure pathologists receive accurate and timely slides for diagnostic review.
What You'll Do- Perform routine and non-routine histology procedures according to established policies and procedures
- Ensure proper accessioning, labeling, and tracking of tissue specimens
- Process tissues, embed specimens in paraffin, and perform microtomy on embedded tissue blocks
- Prepare slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining and perform cover slipping procedures
- Prepare solutions and reagents for special stains and perform special stain testing
- Support Immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures, including preparation of reagents, validation of controls, and testing as needed
- File completed tissue blocks and slides according to laboratory procedures
- Perform routine equipment maintenance, cleaning, and minor troubleshooting
- Document remedial actions, repairs, and repeated testing activities
- Train and provide guidance to Histotechnicians, laboratory aides, and students
- Adhere to laboratory quality control, quality assurance, safety, CLIA, and CAP requirements
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- A current, up-to-date resume
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field preferred
- ASCP Histotechnician (HT) certification required
- Previous histology experience required
- Strong knowledge of tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and laboratory procedures
- Ability to follow established protocols while maintaining accuracy and quality standards
- Experience working in a regulated laboratory environment preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Ability to meet compliance requirements
