Clinical Lab Scientist

The University of Cincinnati seeks a Clinical Lab Scientist Level 2 for the Hoxworth Immunohematology Reference Lab on second or third shift. This role performs advanced immunohematology and transfusion medicine testing, analyzes complex results, and supports reference investigations for challenging patient cases. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining laboratory instruments, following strict quality and regulatory standards, documenting and reporting results, and collaborating with clinicians, students, and researchers in an academic medical setting.

The scientist will help train junior staff, support process improvements, and contribute to UC's mission of patient care, education, and research.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced immunohematology and transfusion medicine testing
• Analyze and interpret complex laboratory results for reference investigations
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment
• Follow quality control, safety, and regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP)
• Accurately document, verify, and report test results in laboratory systems
• Collaborate with clinicians, students, and researchers to support patient care and education
• Assist in training and mentoring junior staff and trainees
• Participate in process improvement and validation projects
• Support on-call, evening, and weekend coverage as needed
• Contribute to an academically rigorous, research-driven laboratory environment
