Position: HEALTH CASEWORKER (POLICE - VICTIMS ASSISTANCE)

General Statement of Duties

Promotes the health and well-being of assigned clients by identifying and resolving personal and social impediments to their care; and participates in outreach projects designed to educate and inform the general public.

Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)

(Illustrative only. Any one position may not require all of the listed KSAs nor do the listed examples include all the KSAs which may be required.)

Knowledge Of

Principles of human growth, development and health.

Principles of normal and abnormal human behavior, including emotional disorders and cognitive processes.

Signs of domestic violence; proper reporting and referral procedures.

Testing processes to be encountered by clients.

Interviewing and counseling techniques; family dynamics.

Grief stages and processes.

Health and social service resources available to clients.

Principles and processes of client needs assessment.

Victims' right per statutory and constitutional law.

Skill To

Operate a personal computer, calculator, and other office equipment.

Document interactions with clients as appropriate; maintain appropriate statistical records.

Navigate within the city; operate assigned vehicle.

Ability To

Assess client health needs; interview and counsel clients.

Coordinate client care with other agencies and appropriate care providers.

Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

Work among diverse groups of people.

Maintain high standards of professionalism. Provide crisis stabilization and support services to crime victims/witnesses and assists with identified concerns resulting from victimization.

Required Education And Experience

Each applicant must have two years experience in victim/witness advocacy program, public health outreach, social work, or a closely related field and an Associate degree from an accredited college or university in health outreach, social work, counseling or a closely related field or a bachelor’s degree in one of the above areas.

For Positions In The Police Department

A certification in trauma responsive care may be substituted for work experience.

Previous experience managing social work interns and staff is preferred.

Must have ability to respond to crisis events during evenings and weekends.

OTHER REQUIREMENTSPossession Of a Valid Driver's License.

MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION

Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.

Working and Physical Conditions Environmental Conditions

Indoor environments; some work in client homes; possible exposure to unsanitary conditions.

Physical Conditions

Duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; light lifting and carrying; general manual dexterity required; must be able to operate assigned vehicle.
