Full-Time Benefits Eligible Working as a Behavioral Health Specialist II in the Brief Intensive Behavior Therapy Program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, you will enjoy:

Supporting children and adolescents in an outpatient behavior therapy setting.

Helping patients build adaptive coping, communication, emotional regulation, and safety skills.

Implementing individualized behavioral interventions under the guidance of licensed clinical providers.

Collaborating closely with psychologists, interdisciplinary team members, patients, and families.

Using therapeutic communication, observation, documentation, and de-escalation skills to support patient progress.

Contributing to a specialized BMCP outpatient program focused on safe, individualized, and evidence-informed behavioral care.

Triaging incoming behavior support requests, determining clinic capacity in collaboration with the managing psychologist, and drafting provider communications for psychologist review.

Providing proactive and reactive behavior support directly to providers (medical, speech, OT, psychology) during appointments.

• Behavioral Care and Treatment Support:
  Provide direct behavioral health support to patients participating in the Brief Intensive Behavior Therapy Program. Implement individualized behavioral interventions, therapeutic activities, and skill-building strategies as directed by the treatment team. Support patients with behavioral, emotional, and developmental needs in a structured outpatient setting.
• Patient Safety and Crisis Prevention:
  Help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff. Use proactive engagement, therapeutic communication, and de-escalation strategies to reduce the risk of behavioral escalation. Respond to acute behavioral concerns in accordance with program expectations, patient-specific plans, training, and organizational policy.
• Individualized Plans of Care:
  Support implementation of individualized care plans, behavioral protocols, and crisis support strategies. Observe and document patient behavior, antecedents, responses to intervention, progress toward goals, and relevant clinical information to support treatment planning. Partner with the clinical team to adjust support based on patient needs and response to intervention.
• Family and Team

  Communicate effectively with patients, families, peers, psychologists, and other health team members. Provide updates within scope and expedite changes in patient behavior, safety concerns, or care needs to licensed clinical providers and program leadership. Participate in team discussions, care coordination, and treatment planning as appropriate.
• Therapeutic Relationships:
  Build rapport with patients while maintaining professional boundaries. Use trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and patient-centered communication to support engagement, trust, and skill development. Promote dignity, respect, and psychological safety in all patient and family interactions.
• Clinical Judgment and BHS II Practice:
  Apply theoretical knowledge to patient care and demonstrate strong clinical skills, problem solving, and priority setting. Use the counseling process and behavioral health knowledge to support development and implementation of care plans. Serve as a skilled team member who contributes to safe, consistent, and high-quality outpatient behavioral care.
• Documentation and Data Collection:
  Complete accurate, timely documentation in accordance with program and organizational expectations. Document patient observations, intervention responses, safety-related concerns, behavioral data, and required follow-up communication. Support data collection that informs treatment decisions and program quality.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3 years of related behavioral health work experience for external BHS II hire consideration.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, peers, and health team members.
• Ability to apply behavioral health knowledge, problem-solving skills, and sound judgment in a clinical care setting.

• Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, education, behavioral health, human services, or a related field.
• Experience working with children or adolescents with behavioral, developmental, emotional, psychiatric, or neurodevelopmental needs.
