The Dietary Aide is responsible for assisting in the preparation and serving of meals to residents or patients in a healthcare or long-term care facility. This role involves supporting the dietary team in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment while ensuring that meals meet the dietary needs of individuals. The Dietary Aide plays a key role in creating a positive dining experience by ensuring food is served promptly and with care.
Key Responsibilities:Meal Preparation and Service:
- Assist in the preparation of meals and beverages according to established menus and dietary guidelines.
- Serve meals to residents or patients, ensuring food is presented in a clean and appealing manner.
- Prepare food trays and deliver them to residents' rooms if needed, following proper procedures for special diets or dietary restrictions.
- Follow resident or patient-specific dietary plans, including special diets such as diabetic, low-sodium, gluten-free, and other medically prescribed diets.
- Ensure proper portion control and that meals are prepared and served according to dietary guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen and dining area, including washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, tables, and surfaces before and after each meal service.
- Follow all food safety guidelines, including proper storage, labeling, and handling of food items.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding food service and kitchen sanitation.
- Assist in receiving and storing food supplies and kitchen inventory.
- Monitor food supplies and notify the dietary manager of any shortages or items needed.
- Rotate stock to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
- Interact courteously and professionally with residents, patients, and staff, addressing their needs and preferences.
- Assist in setting up and clearing dining areas, ensuring residents and patients have an enjoyable dining experience.
- Communicate effectively with dietary staff and healthcare providers about any special dietary needs or concerns.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. - Experience:
Previous experience in food service or healthcare is preferred but not required. - Skills:
- Ability to follow dietary guidelines and meal plans.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation procedures.
