Position Summary

The Human Resources Director is responsible for planning, developing, organizing, implementing, directing, and evaluating the human resource function of the long-term care facility. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws while supporting a positive workplace culture that promotes quality resident care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruitment & Staffing
    • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract qualified clinical and non-clinical staff.
    • Oversee hiring processes for nurses, CNAs, therapists, dietary, housekeeping, and administrative staff.
    • Coordinate onboarding and orientation programs.
    • Maintain appropriate staffing levels in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Employee Relations
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to management and staff.
    • Investigate employee complaints and workplace concerns.
    • Facilitate conflict resolution and corrective action processes.
    • Promote employee engagement and retention initiatives.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
    • Ensure compliance with employment laws including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, OSHA, and state labor regulations.
    • Maintain personnel files and documentation in accordance with healthcare regulations.
    • Support facility compliance with CMS and state survey requirements.
    • Develop and update HR policies and procedures.
  • Compensation & Benefits Administration
    • Administer employee compensation programs.
    • Manage employee benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, PTO, and leave programs.
    • Conduct wage and salary surveys to ensure competitive pay practices.
  • Training & Development
    • Coordinate mandatory in-service training and continuing education.
    • Ensure compliance with state-mandated training requirements for long-term care staff.
    • Support leadership development and succession planning.
  • Payroll & HRIS Oversight
    • Oversee payroll processing and timekeeping systems.
    • Maintain HRIS systems and employee records.
    • Generate HR reports for leadership and regulatory agencies.
  • Risk Management & Workplace Safety
    • Support workplace safety initiatives in collaboration with nursing leadership.
    • Manage workers’ compensation claims.
    • Assist in developing infection control and emergency preparedness policies.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).

Experience:

  • 3–5+ years of progressive HR experience.
  • Experience in healthcare, preferably in long-term care, skilled nursing, or assisted living settings.
  • Experience with union environments (if applicable) preferred.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP
  • PHR or SPHR

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of employment law and healthcare regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS and payroll systems.
