Senior Specialist, Payroll & Compliance

This position combines essential payroll processing with strategic HR compliance support, making you a vital liaison between employees, HR business partners, and external vendors.

In this remote role, you'll leverage your expertise to resolve intricate payroll issues, maintain union relationships, and ensure our organization stays compliant with ever-changing federal, state, and local regulations. What You'll Do
  • Respond to payroll support tickets and HR business partner inquiries, escalating to management when necessary.
  • Audit and correct timekeeping records; input, balance, approve and reconcile payroll entries and deductions.
  • Prepare off cycle checks as needed using accuracy and critical thinking to enforce state laws and Scripps' policies when calculating final payments, recoups, contract payouts, and missed pay.
  • Partner with third-party vendors to ensure all tax rate updates, tax notices and employee garnishments are processed accordingly.
  • Maintain union dues and pension deductions, remit payments, and provide custom reporting for 20+ union groups.
  • Support payroll team members by cross-training and serving as a backup.
  • Provide support and guidance to HR business partners while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local laws and Scripps' policies.
  • Serve as a liaison between HR business partners and third-party vendors to respond to all unemployment claims and track unemployment metrics.
  • Ensure HR compliance by completing Bureau of Labor Statistics and other compliance reporting and assisting with subpoenas, I-9 Forms, and E-Verify and audit requests.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure policies and/or procedures are conducted appropriately.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need
  • Associates degree in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
  • Generally, 5+ years of experience in related area of responsibility preferred
