POSITION SUMMARY: (WHAT, HOW, WHY)
The Learning Specialist supports their assigned department by coordinating, implementing, and supporting onboarding, training, and continuous development programs for staff across the department’s teams. This role strengthens the capability, confidence, and performance of employees, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and tools required to perform high-quality work.

In partnership with department leadership, the Learning Specialist ensures training aligns with OVGI's mission, service philosophy, operational excellence standards, and regulatory requirements. This role serves as a key contact throughout the onboarding journey and works closely with directors, managers, and cross-departmental partners to cultivate a culture of continuous learning grounded in OVGI Mission:
Eliminate Barriers, Empower People, Elevate Human Potential.

This position directly supports Retail Operations. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys helping others learn by doing and is passionate about building strong, capable teams. This position requires travel to locations across our region on a consistent basis.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

• Prior training, coaching, or facilitation experience is required
• Experience at Goodwill is a plus

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Onboarding and New Hire Support

• In collaboration with leadership, maintain and update onboarding materials, manuals, training checklists, and documentation to ensure consistency and quality
• Design and implement a structured 30-, 60-, and 90-day onboarding plan for new hires, emphasizing skill development, confidence building, and job-specific competencies
• Establish onboarding touchpoints that assess learning needs and provide support, serving as a resource for new hires and their managers throughout the process
• In partnership with managers and the L&D team, create systems and tools to support tracking of onboarding progress and coaching effectiveness
• Train managers to support onboarding and training of new hires within their teams
