Onshore Power BI Lead – SSRS to Power BI Migration

The Onshore Power BI Lead will own end‑to‑end delivery of a large‑scale migration of legacy SSRS reports to Power BI. The role involves assessment, design, migration validation, stakeholder sign‑off, and ensuring solution quality, performance, and adoption. You will serve as the primary onshore interface for business IT leadership and offshore delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities Program Technical Leadership
  • Lead large‑scale SSRS to Power BI migration initiatives, including report rationalization, redesign, and modernization.
  • Define migration strategy, roadmap, and execution approach (lift‑and‑shift vs reengineering).
  • Own solution architecture for Power BI reports, datasets, and semantic models based on enterprise standards.
  • Establish best practices for report development, performance tuning, reusability, and governance.
Stakeholder Client Engagement
  • Act as the primary onshore point of contact for business stakeholders, product owners, and IT leadership.
  • Conduct requirement workshops to translate SSRS reports into optimized Power BI dashboards and reports.
  • Present design proposals, migration progress, risks, and outcomes to executive and operational audiences.
  • Drive business validation, UAT coordination, and sign‑offs.
Delivery Team Coordination
  • Provide technical and delivery leadership to offshore Power BI development teams.
  • Review designs, Power BI artifacts, DAX calculations, and dataset models for quality and scalability.
  • Ensure adherence to timelines, delivery milestones, and SLAs.
  • Identify and mitigate migration risks related to data quality, performance, security, and user adoption.
Governance, Security, and Performance
  • Implement Power BI governance models, including work spaces, deployment pipelines, and access controls.
  • Ensure row‑level security (RLS) and compliance with enterprise security standards.
  • Optimize datasets using star‑schema modeling, aggregations, and Direct Query/Import strategies as applicable.
  • Define standards for versioning, documentation, and operational handover.
Adoption Enablement
  • Support Power BI adoption by defining report usage standards and user‑experience principles.
  • Guide business users transitioning from paginated SSRS reports to interactive Power BI experiences.
  • Contribute to training materials and knowledge‑transfer sessions as needed.
Required Skills & Experience Must Have
  • 8+ years in BI/reporting platforms with strong hands‑on Power BI experience.
  • Proven experience leading SSRS to Power BI migration programs in large enterprises.
  • Deep expertise in Power BI Desktop, Service, and Premium capacities; DAX;
    Power Query (M) and data modeling.
  • Knowledge of SSRS architecture, subscriptions, and report types.
  • Strong understanding of SQL Server data warehouses and dimensional modeling.
  • Experience working in onshore/offshore delivery models.
  • Excellent client‑facing communication and leadership skills.
Good to Have
  • Experience with Azure data services:
    Azure SQL, Synapse, Data Factory.
  • Exposure to Power BI deployment pipelines and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience with enterprise governance, audit, and compliance requirements.
  • Background in analytics modernization or cloud BI transformations.
