Senior Cloud Engineer – Microsoft Azure
The Cloud Engineering team is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer with experience primarily in Microsoft Azure to facilitate solution delivery and operational needs within the group. This individual will play a crucial role in implementing enterprise cloud solutions for our business, working a hybrid schedule (3 days in office/2 remote) from our Dallas, TX, or Cincinnati, OH office. No relocation assistance is being offered with this role.
KeyAccountabilities / Deliverables
- Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform: develop modular, secure configurations for deploying Azure resources.
- Utilize version-controlled code (Git Hub) with state management and remote backends.
- Create reusable Terraform modules to standardize infrastructure provisioning.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with Git Hub Actions workflows for Terraform plans/apply and Docker builds/deployments, integrating code linting, security scanning, approvals, and environment gates.
- Translate business and application requirements into cloud-native and hybrid Azure solutions, deploying services such as containers, App Services, VNets, Azure SQL, Key Vault, storage accounts, Private Link, managed SQL, and Azure Backup.
- Modernize legacy infrastructure by migrating legacy IaaS workloads to Azure PaaS or container platforms and integrating on‑prem systems through VPN/Express Route, Azure Arc, or Private Link.
- Enforce governance, security, and compliance using Azure Policy, RBAC, tagging policies, cost control mechanisms, Azure Key Vault, managed identities, and MFA.
- Set up monitoring, alerting, and incident response with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Microsoft Sentinel, creating dashboards and alert rules.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for common operational issues and escalations.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with developers, architects, operations, and security teams, participating in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, mentoring, and promoting Dev Ops best practices.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, deployment guides, CI/CD pipeline workflows, operational runbooks, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Conduct internal knowledge‑sharing sessions and training.
- Continuously evaluate and adopt emerging Azure services, Dev Ops tools, Terraform capabilities, identify automation opportunities, and optimiz[e] cloud costs, performance, and resource usage.
- Microsoft Azure core services: compute (VMs, VMSS, App Services, AKS), networking (VNets, NSGs, UDRs, VPN Gateway, Express Route, Private Link), storage (Blob, File Shares, Disks, backup).
- Azure PaaS services:
Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Application Gateway, Azure Functions, Logic Apps. - Infrastructure as Code: proficiency with Terraform, Azure
RM provider, Bicep/ARM templates, remote state management, work spaces, and environment separation. - CI/CD and version control:
Git fundamentals, Git Hub Actions (or Azure Dev Ops Pipelines), pipeline building, secret management, security scans. - Containerization & orchestration:
Docker file creation, multi‑stage builds, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Helm charts, Azure Container Registry. - Automation:
Azure Automation Accounts, runbooks, Power Shell and Bash scripting for orchestration. - Identity & access management:
Azure AD / Entra , RBAC, Conditional Access, MFA, managed identities, Service Principals, Azure Key Vault integration. - Cost management:
Azure Cost Management & Billing, budgeting, forecasting, Reserved Instances, autoscaling, rightsizing. - Monitoring & troubleshooting:
Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, optional Microsoft Sentinel, custom dashboards, alerts, logs, metrics. - Legacy infrastructure: data centers, IaaS, hypervisors, migration strategies, hybrid networking.
- Operating systems:
Windows Server (RDP, IIS, AD basics), Linux (SSH, systemd, package management). - Dev Ops lifecycle:
Agile practices, CI/CD concepts, 12‑factor app principles, blue/green, canary, rolling deployments.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or a related field.
