Overview

Fifth Third Lead Agilists are members of the Agile Center. They bring at least 5 years of full‑time business experience and at least 3 years of Scrum experience. After training in Fifth Third Agile, Scrum and Scrum Mastering, they lead an Agile Squad or Squads, ensuring the application of Agile and Scrum values, principles and framework activities (Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, Retrospective, Backlog Refinement).

They coach Product Owners and Development Teams in product backlog management, self‑organization, continuous improvement, risk identification, conflict resolution and software craftsmanship. Lead Agilists promote growth, facilitate neutral discussions, serve as servant leaders and provide objective guidance while building trusting, safe and collaborative environments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Solid understanding of the Scrum Framework and principles of agility
  • Ability to build high‑performing teams that use inspect and adapt loops to continuously learn and improve
  • Use empirical data collection to benefit team and organization
  • Critical and creative problem‑solving skills
  • Present, teach, mentor and facilitate at multiple levels of the organization, especially within teams
  • Collaborate with team members and value team success over individual success
  • Continuously learn about Agile, Scrum, coaching, facilitating, emotional intelligence, team dynamics and listening
  • Understand all software lifecycle development disciplines – Project Management, Requirements Management, Design, QA & Testing, Implementation, Deployment, Configuration & Change Management
  • Knowledge of practices that support agility (CI/CD, TDD, ATDD, etc.)
  • Knowledge of other Agile frameworks and ways of working (Kanban, Scrumban, XP, Mob programming, etc.)
  • Understand priorities and goal setting for teams and organizations in an agile environment
  • Leadership skills, specifically servant leadership and behaviors that demonstrate key mindset shifts for agility
  • Apply multiple approaches to remove Agile Squad impediments (cultural barriers, logistical challenges, coordination with other squads)
  • Escalate impediments when needed to appropriate organizational entities
  • Facilitate communication, cooperation and collaboration inside and outside the Agile Squad, including the Agile Center
  • Improve effectiveness of all Agile Squad roles
  • Shield Agile Squad from external requests and interference to ensure full productivity
  • Foster self‑organization, learning and growth within the Agile Squad
  • Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • 5+ years of full‑time business experience
  • 3+ years of Scrum experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience presenting, teaching, mentoring and facilitating at multiple levels of the organization
  • Experience communicating and removing impediments outside of the team
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Coaching skills with the ability to convey complex messages and teach new concepts
  • Ability to resolve interpersonal and organizational conflicts – strong mediator
  • Active coach and mentor focused on growing and maximizing potential
  • High‑energy and passion for building strong teams
  • Build trust and rapport that creates a sustainable and effective workplace
  • Promote innovative thinking and self‑improvement
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience
