Job Description

Position Overview

The Plumbing Buyer is responsible for procuring goods, materials, equipment, and services necessary to support company operations while ensuring cost efficiency, quality standards, and timely delivery. This position works closely with vendors, suppliers, and internal departments to maintain inventory levels, negotiate pricing, and support organizational purchasing objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Source, evaluate, and purchase goods, materials, equipment, and services in accordance with company requirements and budgets.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure reliable service and competitive pricing.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, delivery schedules, and purchasing terms to maximize cost savings and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate purchasing activities to maintain adequate stock and prevent shortages.
  • Review purchase requisitions, prepare purchase orders, and ensure procurement documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Track orders, shipments, and deliveries to ensure timely fulfillment and resolve any supply or delivery issues.
  • Conduct market research and vendor evaluations to identify new products, suppliers, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Finance, Warehouse, and other departments to support purchasing needs and operational goals.
  • Maintain purchasing records, vendor files, and procurement reports in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Analyze purchasing trends, pricing fluctuations, and supplier performance to support strategic procurement decisions.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and inventory planning activities as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Strong knowledge of purchasing, procurement, and inventory management practices.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and vendor relationship management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, purchasing systems, and inventory management software.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to analyze pricing, contracts, and purchasing data effectively.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • High level of professionalism, accountability, and confidentiality.
  • Adaptable and results-driven with a strong commitment to operational efficiency and cost control.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screenings such as background and motor vehicle record checks.
  • English speaking, reading, and writing preferred, and required where necessary to perform job duties.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Relevant industry certifications or licenses preferred, and required where necessary to perform job duties.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Ability to effectively multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and adapt to changing schedules and operational demands.
  • Ability to work overtime, modified schedules, or occasional weekends as business needs require.
  • Work in a typical office environment, sitting at a desk and performing prolonged computer work, with occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Maintain dependable transportation and consistent, reliable attendance to meet customer service and operational needs.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions within established company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate in person, by phone, and electronically, including on a tablet, smartphone, and other office technology.
  • Travel as required to support project and operational needs.
  • Perform all work on-site and in person; this is not a remote or hybrid position.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull at least 25 pounds.
