Position: Field Service Engineer 1

Overview

Rapiscan Systems designs, manufactures and markets security and inspection systems worldwide. Our products inspect baggage, cargo, people, vehicles and other objects for weapons, explosives, drugs and other contraband. Rapiscan Systems security and inspection devices can be found in airports, border crossings, railway stations, seaports, terminals, government and military installations and nuclear facilities.

Rapiscan is currently seeking a Field Service Engineer to be part of our fast-paced and quality-focused team. The candidate will be based in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. A Field Service Engineer’s primary responsibility is ensuring users of Rapiscan’s equipment are satisfied with its performance. The role involves basic installation, troubleshooting, diagnostics, repair, and maintenance support with total customer satisfaction in mind.

Strong electronic repair and troubleshooting skills and knowledge are required.

Responsibilities
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains equipment in the field.
  • Achieves contractual requirements for metrics, information reporting and customer management.
  • Responds to emergency and non-scheduled calls for service daily within established response-time goals.
  • Meets daily service repair needs and drives customer satisfaction at assigned sites/locations.
  • Completes all scheduled maintenance within required deadlines.
  • Documents all maintenance and repair work, submitting paperwork in required time frames.
  • Orders, installs, and returns parts per regulation.
  • Maintains a safe/clean work environment and adheres to company safety procedures and product workmanship procedures:
    • Reports all accident and safety incidents. Completes accident reports when required and works with management to investigate, identify, and implement corrective/preventative actions.
    • Completes all training courses on time with stated passing grades.
  • Upholds the company’s core values of Integrity, Innovation, Accountability, and Teamwork.
  • Demonstrates behavior consistent with the company’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.
  • Reports quality problems or defects to manager or senior management to trigger corrective action and avoid recurrence.
  • May have duties modified or assigned at any time to meet business needs.
Qualifications
  • Associate of Science degree in electronics or a related technical discipline, or equivalent military training or experience.
  • 4 years of experience in a field service environment; experience in the x‑ray industry highly desired, or Bachelor of Science degree in electronics, engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • Knowledge of electronic and mechanical assemblies, wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Familiarity with test equipment (DVM, oscilloscope) and experience with high‑voltage and x‑ray producing equipment preferred.
  • Clear and concise business communication proficiency, both oral and written.
  • Detail oriented, well organized, and self‑motivated with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literate: competency in MS Office Suite and aptitude for learning specialized software programs.
  • Team player with ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment with minimal oversight.
  • Flexible schedule based on locations’ contractual operational needs; non‑standard hours including on‑call, weekends, and holidays required.
  • Available to travel on short notice; non‑standard hours, weekends, and holidays to assist other field sites as required.
  • Travel required 0‑75% by air or car with some overnights.
  • Ability to pass an in‑depth background check – Sensitive Security Information (SSI).
  • US citizenship required.
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
