Position Overview
As Underwriting Director, you will be instrumental in shaping the growth and strategic direction of our business unit, overseeing both underwriting strategy and execution. You will drive profitable expansion, guide product and technology development, lead a team of underwriters, collaborate with IT, sales, marketing, and other functional teams, and partner with senior leadership to develop competitive solutions.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities- Direct the underwriting strategy, supervising new business, managing renewals, and evaluating the performance of the book of business.
- Lead, cultivate, and motivate a team of underwriting professionals to achieve high performance, implementing leadership best practices such as one‑on‑one meetings, mentorship, and performance calibration.
- Collaborate with Sales, Actuarial, Product, Finance, Legal, and Operations teams to advance go‑to‑market strategies, ensuring underwriting discipline is upheld throughout the process.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Risk Management and Insurance, or a related field, or equivalent experience. - Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing underwriting talent; senior individual contributors may also be considered.
- Deep technical underwriting knowledge at a national level, preferably in Workers Compensation, Liability, and Property. Completion of or progress toward a professional designation such as AU, CPCU, CIC, INS, or ARM is preferred.
