Working Hours: 5pm–5am Monday‑Friday
The Landfill Supervisor position is responsible for coordinating landfill operations and employees to ensure that performance goals are met while maintaining compliance with the EPA. Landfill Supervisors hire, train, coach, evaluate, counsel, and manage the performance of the landfill staff with an emphasis on safety and productivity. Landfill Supervisors help to ensure environmental safety and compliance are met while maintaining productivity.
Responsibilities- Direct the daily activities of landfill staff
- Ensure all work and equipment operation performed by staff is completed safely in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
- Manage the landfill staff, including hiring, training, scheduling work assignments, performance management, discipline, and authorization of overtime
- Perform timely performance reviews for employees, recommend disciplinary actions, and complete all other required documentation relating to assigned personnel
- Maintain the landfill to meet requirements for EPA inspections
- Work with landfill staff to ensure established production and quality control standards are met
- Monitor and enforce quality and safety standards and ensure all compliance goals are met or exceeded
- Oversee operation of trash fill, site, and/or construction areas and complete necessary daily reports
- Track certifications of landfill staff and provide training as needed
- Continuously monitor equipment to ensure proper operation and minimal downtime
- Professionally interact with internal and external customers
- Ensure employees' daily log sheets are filled out correctly and accurately
- Assure completion of operator observation forms in a timely manner
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Manage 6–20 employees
- Oversee and direct other managers
- Ability to operate all landfill equipment proficiently
- Read and understand landfill plans
- Familiar with EPA and all other requirements regarding landfill operations
- Working knowledge of basic computer programs including Microsoft Office
- Dependable, self‑starter, and able to identify and perform daily operational requirements
- Good verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with others
- 1–2 years experience in a related work environment required (landfill experience highly preferred)
- 5 years experience operating heavy equipment preferred
- Previous supervisory experience highly preferred
- Surveying and GPS experience preferred
- Construction background a plus
- Frequently lift/carry/push/pull a maximum of 20 lbs
- Occasionally lift/carry/push/pull a maximum of 75 lbs
- Rarely lift/carry/push/pull a maximum of 100 lbs
- Continuously work outside
- Frequently work in changing temperatures
- Occasionally work in wet/humid conditions
- Frequently work in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
- Occasionally stoop/kneel/crouch/crawl
- Frequently climb and/or balance
- Frequently sit/stand/walk
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste
- Ability to travel between offices, as required
- Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
- Must be available for 24‑hour emergency calls
- Legally eligible to work in the United States
- Valid driver's license (if applicable)
- Must successfully complete pre‑employment testing
- Must be able to read and speak the English language
High School (required), General Education Diploma (preferred)
