Position: Forklift Operator (3rd Shift)

Overview

Reports to the corresponding Warehouse Supervisor and is responsible for moving product or materials in a production or warehouse environment using powered tools and vehicles.

Responsibilities
  • Operate industrial vehicles and equipment.
  • Loads and unloads product from trucks. Transports materials to and from storage areas throughout warehouse.
  • Floor stacks unitized materials in warehouse. Places unitized materials into storage racks.
  • Delivers requisitioned materials to assembly areas. Records all transactions by scanning product with barcode reader.
  • Transports trash from various locations throughout plant and delivers it to the proper location.
  • Assists in the breaking down and restacking of pallets on receipt, when necessary.
  • Performs daily pre-start check of forklift and completes check list form.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and company policies and procedures.
  • Move product and/or materials manually as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year related experience.
Experience
  • Must be Certified in the operation of a forklift or able to pass a written certification test as well as demonstrate skillful use of forklift. Ability to operate a manual / powered pallet jack or lift product.
Training Requirements

To perform this job assignment an individual must meet the required job specific training located in the Training Register.

Language Skills

Employee must be able to read, write, communicate and comprehend basic English. Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must have the ability to write simple reports and correspondence. Must have the ability to communicate effectively to co-workers and supervisors, and have good listening and comprehension.

Mathematical Skills

Employee must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must have the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.

Reasoning Ability

Employee must have the ability to apply and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Qualifications

Employee must have the ability to operate a lift truck safely on the floor and in our racking system. Requires the ability to operate a barcode reader and to record all transactions in writing, as necessary. Requires ability to read and interpret a material request form and issue appropriate product to the assembly lines. Must have the ability to make decisions on proper storage of product in warehouse and to be able to follow a first-in-first-out system of storing product.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is sometimes exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and potential exposure to sulphuric acid (electric battery), potential exposure to carbon monoxide from propane fueled forklift.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
